Re: puppy bit me, advice please.

In the initial stages of training this, do not just take ANYTHING he has - if you do he will learn either to bite you, or to swallow down what he has whole. If thats a treat thats not so bad, but if he stole a 6" kitchen knife or a heap of cooked chicken bones, that could result in a dead dog....

switching foods

So, I know when I decided to switch food brands, from Innova to Blue Buffalo, I did it very slowly over the course of two weeks (plus I wanted to use the rest of the innova anyway). Since she's on Blue Buffalo longevity puppy, I was wondering if I will have to wean (sp?) her slowly again when I swit...

Re: Is my puppy getting enough sleep?

i'm not sure I can answer your question about the sleep, but I can tell you that pups have natural activity peaks that occur at dawn and dusk. For my pup, the peak that occurs at dusk is FAR more out of control than the one at dawn. She is absolutely CRAZY for a good 30 minutes just as the sun is go...

Re: Uneccessry barking

I might be able to help with the car situation? There are these really neat harness things that clip to the back seat, using the same bar as a baby carseat ( I think?). That will help keep doggie tethered to the back seat area. I have my dog in a crate when we travel and since she associates the cra...

Re: Argh! Need help?!?!

oh it's so nice to hear those stories because I don't feel so bad about my stupid mistake. Although, your doggie was SMART, she only ate the CHICKEN and not the plastic (or styrofoam?!?). haha. I guess we all have funny stories...Like my parents old Dalmation (also in heaven) swallowed a couple wash...

Argh! Need help?!?!

Hi guys... It's me again, the crazy psycho lunatic puppy mom. haha. WELL....today i was using the bathroom for like ONE MINUTE (seriously haha) and Daisy was being extra quiet. She usually comes with me and waits by my feet, but she wasn't there...and a-HA...when I finished, I found she had fished d...

Re: dog is scared of being touched by people

when i first brought my dog home, she exhibited EXACTLY the same behavior. No aggression, just fear and skittishness, which seemed odd for a pup? But, anyhow, the way I dealt with it was to give her lots of space and just sit on the floor with treats in my hands. I wouldn't make any movements, but s...

Re: Over aggresive Chihuahua

hi! I don't have much training input, but wanted to congratulate you for giving Fern a better life. It's amazing to me how ANYONE could abuse a dog, but it's the sad reality that there are tons of cases of just that each and every day. Fern is extremely lucky to have you and I'm sure that the only r...

Re: Puppies and raw bones

sorry, quick question. :D Even though my questions are never quick... haha - can you give raw meaty bones if your dog is NOT on a raw food diet? I have her on innova dry food and I supplement with veggies, fruits, and yogurt... - where - o - where would I be able to get these raw meaty type b...

Re: Brushing teeth

Agreed, many times, it's difficult for vets to get the "full story" because they are so busy. And, you're correct, that my parents weren't too educated on dog food back then, so they probably fed her bag food, although I know my Mom would never buy anything from a grocery store with tons o...
