Re: OCD Tail Chasing

I'd take him to the vets and get his cholesterol levels checked. OCD tends to go hand in hand with high levels, this should give you a clue as to if it is anxiety/boredom based or neurological (ie requiring chemical intervention).

Re: Fox poo ... why does it smell so bad ?

Tomato sauce works because it contains white vinegar (acetic acid) and lemon juice works because it contains citric acid.
I have some bearded collies who love rolling in foxpoo :| 'orrible stuff

Re: Oh no! a tick!

:( You know when things dont sit right.... I dont know how to phrase this right, if I cause offence Nettle I am sorry but... Giving advice like vaseline and twisting ticks on the grounds that it has always worked for me is quite irresponsible imo. I equate it to saying I use a prong collar to teach ...

Re: Oh no! a tick!

If you dont have a remover thingy. just grab hold of the tick gently and twist....keep twisting and the head and legs and all will come out. I always do it using a bit of tissue though! Twisting ticks out is an old wives tale. It significantley increases the chance of snapping the Ticks head off, c...

Re: Help! Alternative Flea Prevention Needed

Lungworm is a form of parasitic worm that infests the respitory system of its host. Part of its life cycle involves using slugs and snails as an intermediate host. Dogs can get infected by sniffing/licking slug trails and by eating slugs and snails, as their eggs can be found there. Very odd and not...

Re: Raw food diet? yea or nay?

Obviously the ACVN does supply information on homecooked diets. They have to keep the argument balanced :) https://www.petdiets.com is their recommended site. Here is a sample diet they offer.... Food Chicken, white meat, cooked, roasted Rice, white, medium-grain, cooked, unenriched Veggie Mix Corn ...

one of the many vets I've talked to (all of whom recommended against raw) The AVMA setup the American College of Veterinary Nutrition to educate vets and the public about canine nutrition, these guys tell the vets what to say. Dr. Sean Delaney - Chair (senior executive vice president and chief scie...

Re: How do I keep my dog off the counter?

The impulse control is very good to teach dogs. I dont think anyone in our house could take 30mins to eat. There is a 3 minute scrabble around the table, then a pile of washing up lol. With 2 teenaged boys and dogs no food lasts long here

I think we should practise the impulse control games too ;)

Re: How do I keep my dog off the counter?

I find the easiest way off stopping my girls from begging at the table is to give them their dinner. We all eat as a family, dogs included. Come on, would you sit there feeling hungry while a group of people had a lovely smelling dinner 4 feet away from you and your stomach not growl, maybe drool a ...

Re: Fetch Help Please!

She's a clever dog and I know it won't take long.... which could also mean she loses interest or may not see any point/value in fetch. my dog knows how to play fetch and quickly loses interest. just something to tuck in the back of your mind as you go about this. not all dogs love or see the point ...

Re: Fetch Help Please!

Ok, training a fetch is fairly simple. It just takes a little time and patience (like training any behaivour). You have to break it down in to smaller stages and gradually increase the game. Firstly you need to train her to hold an object in her mouth. Get a pile of treats ready and present a ball t...
