Re: Growling before snapping.

(imagine being hugged by someone you like well enough.... now imagine that hug goes on and on and on, and they cling and dont let go... and breathe in your ear.... it really wouldnt take long minutes at most, for that to go from fine, to 'earrrrrgh ugh get off me'!) haha, love the comparison I do t...

Re: Growling before snapping.

Just had another quick question. If he were to wag his tail fanatically with his ears pulled back, like he does when he's excited to see someone, and approaches a friend of mine that he's only met couple of times, then does that mean that he is willing to be petted by that person? Guess this is an o...

Re: Growling before snapping.

I woke up this morning with Ruperts head next to mine on the pillow, his back pressed up against my front and my arm round him. I got screechy kisses and waggy tail when he realised I'd woken up

Re: Growling before snapping.

So I have a question on to what extent I can allow strangers to touch him. Am I to forbid petting completely, or is just an occasional stroke on the chest or on the back ok? He is not reacting too badly yet, and he doesn't seem too nervous when a stranger come and try to pet him. Although, there are...

Re: Growling before snapping.

What you said makes sense, Nettle :)

The poor guy has been cuddled his whole life, no wonder he's reacting the way he is.

Re: Growling before snapping.

Thank you so much for the posts!
I will try to resist cuddling him too much...It's hard sometimes though
All of us in the family would have to take a step back..
I think it's cuddling that he's annoyed with the most.

Clicker training and fading out treats

Hello! I have a male Beagle who's about a year and a half years old. I've been trying to use the clicker more, and I had a question regarding clicker training. So I read in Victoria's book that fading out treats is a good idea as you train your dog. And I was just wondering, when I am fading out tre...

Growling before snapping.

Hello! I have a male beagle, and he is around a year and a half years old. Is it a wise idea to encourage him to growl before he snaps or nips when he is annoyed? Most of the time my beagle directly snaps or nips before growling....I have read a little bit of Victoria's book and it said that dogs us...

Re: Male Dog Aggressive to Other Dogs on Leash

Thank you so much for all of your comprehensive answers! I had couple of more questions. At home, whenever he hears another dog bark, or sees another dog through the window, he barks like crazy and growls. What would be a good way to handle that? I can't control when another dog barks...We are tryin...

Male Dog Aggressive to Other Dogs on Leash

I have a male beagle who just turned 15 months. Recently, he is being more and more aggressive towards other dogs on the street while he is on a walk. He growls, barks, and lunges at other dogs. When he was younger and still a puppy, he used to love seeing other dogs on the streets. He would try to ...

Dog suddenly snappy and aggressive

I have a 1 year and 2 months old male beagle. It started tuesday morning. He increasingly became snappy all of sudden. Tuesday morning, my sister was taking him out on a morning walk and I guess he smelled a cat or something because he started pulling on the harness to the point it almost slipped ou...

Re: Dog doesn't like to be sniffed

I'm kind of confused, because he does the play bow and everything, he even wrestles with some of the dogs, but when it comes to sniffing, he seems kind of nervous.

Dog doesn't like to be sniffed

My male one year old beagle used to be fine with being sniffed (or greeted) until several months ago. He would approach other dogs to sniff them, but when other dogs come to sniff him, he jumps and avoids them. When we go to the dog park, he lets other dogs sniff him on the nose, but when they greet...

Tail is down

Hello I have a male beagle who just turned a year old. He's a cheerful guy, but I'm noticing that his tail is down alot of times. I've heard that if a tail is down, then it means the dog is sad... I'm a new dog owner so everything is just new and confusing... It's up when he's walking, or when alarm...

Ate something dead.

Four days ago, I was walking my year old Beagle, and he picked up something from the ground and ate it. It was so quick, I couldn't do anything about it. I had no idea what it was until I saw some fur/feathers sticking out of his mouth. It seemed like a small bird with really wet feathers since it's...
