Losing your best friend
I hope this isn't inappropriate, as after all losing our dogs is a big part of the story of dog ownership, but I don't want to upset anyone. Anyway here goes. I lost my girl last Thursday after nine and a half wonderful years together. She truly was my best friend and I can't imagine life without he...

Re: Sleepless nights..........
Thanks Erica that's really helpful and I will ask our cardiologist next time I'm there if its OK to try this.
I must say a lot of websites put it down to advancing years.

Sleepless nights..........
Hi all Firstly it’s been an age since I have posted on her so very few of you will probably know me or remember me, so just as way of background info I am proud mum to a, nearly nine year old, Doberman girl who I have had since she was eight weeks old. She and I are the only occupants in our house a...

Re: Protecting your dog
Thanks for all the responses and advice folks, I am thinking that the citronella spray would be an idea. If I'm honest I would like something stronger (i.e. pepper spray) but I do not fancy a 5 year term for carrying it (for those outside of the UK its classed as an offensive weapon over here and is...

Protecting your dog
Hey to those that may remeber me, apologies for such a long time no see, but circumstances changed, have changed again, yada, yada, yada. Anyhooooo, to my question. I have just moved to a new area where I have discovered that big bull breeds are 'en vogue'. Now those that know me will know that I ha...

Re: The Old 'Aggression' Chestnut
Thanks Nettle, I hear what you're saying about making them more frightened and will give it some thought. TBH with you though the other reason I have done it is that some people STILL allow their dogs to come charging at mine saying 'ooooh he's only wanting to play!'. Well that's as maybe, but my gi...

Re: The Old 'Aggression' Chestnut
Nettle, why do you say no muzzle? I ask as I have had to resort to muzzling my youngest GSD, as she bit my partner when air snapping at another dog. Do you think this makes them worse?

Re: Double trouble?
Welcome back, good to hear from you. :D Why thank you and lovely to hear from you too. :D What we do for love  Tell me about it  Yep, they need to be taken out separately to do the "reactive dog" training you know about as a vintage Board member (but we have tons of new threads...

Double trouble?
Hi all Long time no speak! I need some help with a pack of unruly pooches that belong to my (newly acquired) OH. I am afraid they are a motley little crew. We have (in age order): Florance - Collie / retreiver cross, possibly some GSD in her? Know one knows, she was a rescue mutt and is now 9 years ...

Re: When your dog is attacked
It was me  and not fundog Sorry fundog :) No, wouldn't want you to do anything illegal.Thats why I asked. In US I don't even know if it's ok here and I would not want to hurt any dog but, if a dog came after my Spencer, WOW I don't know, I just couldn't stand it if something happened to him. ...

Re: When your dog is attacked
Unfortunately Em the chances are that the dogs will suffer, it all depends how much say I get in it. When I asked the police lady about what would happen to the dogs she said that if they are identified as a 'pit bull type' which I would be about 99% sure the larger one will be then they will automa...

Re: When your dog is attacked
Oooops! Sorry fundog  You must just have that 'offensive weapon' look about you! Well ladies, gentleman and the ant-hill mob  I have news.............. I have just had a call from the police. The incident I reported was passed to our community police who as I said earlier are very ...

Re: When your dog is attacked
Fundog, Mace is very much illegal in the UK as indeed is Pepper spray (another person suggested this to me). Being in possession of either of these (whether or not you have actually used them) would be classed as carrying an offensive weapon. Obviously no one on here can or would advocate doing anyt...

Re: When your dog is attacked
Thanks mattie, I had considered that but didn't think there was much point until i knew where he lived. I will give them a call tomorrow anyway and just sound them out. Also please believe me that none of what I have said is meant to be a reflection on Staffies or even pit bulls. There are loads of ...

Re: When your dog is attacked
Fundog - these people fascinate me too and horrify me in equal message. when he said 'they are doing what they are trained to do' he did mean that he had trained them to kill other dogs. Now whether or not that is true is an entirely different question but I have heard reports that there are people ...
