Next time I find myself in Manchester and in need of a kitchen, I'll be sure to contact one of the spam-bots on the dog-training forum...

Re: owner or guardian?

Swanny, I think you have more eloquently put across what I was trying to say. I agree completely. It is all about responsibility.

Re: owner or guardian?

Pets, on the other hand, need our care and always will. and there ya go...........this is exactly PETA's position. they view any domesticated dog as 'damaged' and thereby needs to be euthanized because we've made them dependent on us. I feel sorry for people that have turned their dogs over to peta...

Re: owner or guardian?

In my case, 'slave' or 'official feeder and tummy-tickler'. Seriously though, has the world gone mad? To my mind, guardianship implies that the individual being cared for will in time no longer need the guardian's care, such as a child or a temporarily incapacitated adult. Even in the case of a perm...

Re: Vent!

I get quite miffed when people tell me she's lucky to have ended up here. We're the lucky ones. To me ANY dog who ends up in a home where their needs are met and they are loved like part of the family is a lucky dog no matter where they started life. I've met too many of the unlucky ones to see it ...

Re: Vent!

My girl has seven teeth, callouses up the back of her legs, deformed feet and boobs bigger than mine. That doesn't make me awesome - it makes the original owners complete arseholes. That is my quote for the day, and probably the week :D Thanks Judy. I get quite miffed when people tell me she's luck...

Re: Vent!

Sweetie is a 'rescue' of sorts, but I make no bones about admitting that we had no noble intentions and this was an unintentional rescue. We both work fulltime, wanted a dog and knew a puppy would be a bad idea. What we actually had in mind would have been a scenario along the lines of 'family movin...

Re: Ridiculous fear?

I agree. I know a JRT who either goes to work with one owner every day, or gets an 8km walk with the other owner. They take her everywhere with them and when she gets excited about something she is 'typical terrier'. But when they are home relaxing, she just dozes happily on the couch. Not saying th...

Re: Quote from Weight Watchers Magazine-digital ed

But aside from weight loss, there is one other benefit to walking our dogs: mood elevation! Getting outside for a walk with our dogs is definitely therapeutic, for both them and us. :D Yes, I completely agree with this! I'm not a morning person in the slightest, but every morning for the last 18 mo...

Re: Variety (or lack of) in the Raw Diet

Oh I am so jealous reading this thread! Fundog you are so lucky to be able to slaughter your own. We make do with bits and bobs from the supermarket (chicken necks, heart, other offal, sardines, eggs, etc) because we're in a city, and because Sweetie is just one little pug the expense isn't too bad,...

crocheted afghan I had to look this up! I've just always called it a blanket. You learn something new every day!! Yes, well spotted Diane, we are in Australia. Not the best climate for Sweetie really because although we have lovely mild winters, they are very short and for about 7-8 months o...

Re: Sweetie

Bit of an update. Training is coming along ssllooooowwwwlllyy but we're getting there, mostly thanks to this forum. Her weight is stable but she'll always have heaps of loose skin from her previous life. She's healthy and happy and enjoying her raw diet and life of luxury at Pug Land, which is what ...

Re: Recall

Oh I can relate to this! Firstly, good on you for perservering. It sounds like you're doing really well, actually. As Nettle said, two months is no time at all. If he's come from a bad home and was never trained, then you're doing brilliantly just to have him out on regular walks, let alone sitting,...
