Re: Dogs & horses

As both dog and horse owner, I don't think either group should be expected not to use the area, but regardless of how often you bump into each other both groups should be prepared. For dog owners, this means having a good recall from distraction (which obviously a lot of people struggle with anyway,...

Re: Seriously proud of my wee man :-)

Thank you everyone :-) Bendog, it is a super special thing for me because Horus was 3 when I got him, and had serious issues after being starved and abused until he was 5 weeks old and then had a home that mistreated/mishandled him for a year, then spent 18 months in kennels waiting for a home. When...

Re: changing emotions

Alternatively, if you allow the dog to bark once and then treat, you can teach him to let you know when someone is coming to the door!! It is often easier to do this than to stop them barking altogether. Use a new command such as thank you to let them know you have heard them, so the sequence goes &...

Re: Seriously proud of my wee man :-)

Thanks!! Judy, you got it in one, his obedience is impeccable and has been for some time, but what got me was that when in a situation that he was really unsure in, instead of panicking at the ponies he chose to actively seek me out, ask me what to do, only moved in order to keep me in eyesight so w...

Seriously proud of my wee man :-)

Just been down to feed the ponies, and Horus comes with me. Depending on where the babies are, he is either tied to the outside of the gate, or the inside, or he stays with me (he is tied outside if they are too close so there is always a barrier between them). Recently Oya in particular has been mo...

Re: rescue puppy aggression issues

I don't want to hijack this thread any more than it has been already, but Goku, until you learn to listen and have a LOT more experience under your belt, then I suggest you don't argue with people who have either been in these situations or do this for a living. If you want a service, then pay for i...

Re: Moving to a new home

Resist the urge to take clean dog bedding and mats/rugs etc into the new house - don't wash the bedding for a few weeks before if you can, and if you have any rugs or mats don't clean them or throw them out just yet - take them with you to create a home smell as quickly as possible. If you possibly ...

Re: Clicker Training - Heres How!

I would suggest two options. The first is to make sure you are using really yummy treats for a couple of sessions, so they really WANT to try and earn them, and just sit it out. If they wander off or throw other behaviours at you, just wait until they come back and you can carry on once or twice bef...

Re: Gossip and Oya

Yep, I love going down at night in the frost to see them, cos they glow in the dark!! They have frost all the way from the tips of their little ears, but I never manage to get up early enough to photograph that before it melts in the early morning sun.

Re: camping and raw diet protocal

I think for ease I would just take dry food, but if you do want to take raw why not just take easy-to-manage minced and forget the bones for a week? That way as you have said, they will eat their food from the bowls so you shouldn't have any more smell to deal with. If you don't want dry food then h...

Re: Gossip and Oya

Thought it was time for another update, we had a fab day today!! Ponies are coming in 2-3 days a week (my days off so I have as much time as they need that day and I don't need to rush them for any reason) and have been mainly groomed and walked round the block, but due to the rain grooming today wa...

CSJ have a great reputation in the agility world, and they are really friendly. Definitely worth an email or even just call them - might be easier over the phone!!

Re: Raw Food Diet

Cool, thanks. It lasted about 10mins which is the longest so far!! What kind of frequency would you suggest then?

What else can I be looking for that will be a really good chew? Ideally an hour or two would be nice!!

Re: Failed the home check

Stupid, stupid, stupid people. Words fail me.

At least if you are getting a puppy you get to choose exactly what you want, hunt down the healthiest you can find, and get to bring up a good dog from the start - and keep at least one dog from ever ending up in rescue.

Big hugs xxxxxxxx
