Re: Dog life in the UK...

Thanks everyone! Little differences in dog culture will affect everyday life so it's great to get lots of replies. I think the biggest difference is going to be our "everyday" walking places. Here we have like mostly forest all around but there it will be mostly fields. And yes Ansa is not...

Dog life in the UK...

Long story short - I got a job in the UK and it seems we are all (me, my husband and Ansa the dog) moving to the UK next year (me first, rest later). What is it like with a dog there? Place-wise we are talking about what I would classify as a small city in the middle of nowhere. I've been reading st...

Re: Taking my dog to work

I would love to be able to take my dog to work. From your post it is not exactly clear what you want Yumi to do and what you are doing while she should do these things. Off leash anywhere while you are not paying attention to her? - Not safe. I think what you need to do is a list of things you need ...

Re: Harness problems

I would take it in very small steps. I do agree it is better especially if you have a long line or what I like to use sometimes is attaching the lead to a hip belt that we also use for running once in a while. My pup also doesn't like her harness. I got a new one that is better but she still she doe...

I met Victoria in Finland \o/

Hi all! I thought I'd share as I met Victoria in her show in Finland and I think I like her more now. :) Ok I didn't really personally talk to her much other than asking for autographs to my book and the fireworks CD I bought and trying to thank her for introducing me to positive reinforcement train...

Re: which breeds are right for me and my family

I've some suggestions as I think a medium dog could be better or at least more handy as a first dog. Also better in fitting in a bus or train (my 13 kg dog is great as in case of emergency I can still take her in my lap, but she is still what I would call "dog size"). They also eat less - ...

Re: Unresponsive! Advice needed.

What do I do with my dog outside? - All kinds of stuff. :) -I once got bored with our normal outings so I decided to encourage jumping on boulders. Now I can ask her to jump on one whenever we run across one. It's just fun. -Just now I am getting a bit bored again so I've decided to search out the l...

Re: Unresponsive! Advice needed.

I'm also not an expert but I do have a few suggestions. Feeding times. Could you give his second meal only after your afternoon walk. That way he will be more hungry and perhaps more interested in getting treats. I assume this longer walk is where you see most the problems. Partly it may just be a t...

Re: Guess the mix- and the age!

Looks a lot like a shorthaired springer x border collie, spots and all. I've seen lots of pictures of them on our sprollie fb group. I think it is a rather common mix "in the English countryside" so also highly likely. :) Looking good for 15!

Re: Getting them to accept booties?

I had booties for Ansa as a pup as we had a very cold winter. Inside she was weird with them, but once outside she totally forgot about them. Of course then they had the habit of coming off with all the running round. :D I suggest teaching him to fetch and find them in the snow. ;)

Re: Training to tolerate manhandling...

I just watched this video of some Finnish dog training people (obedience and protection and such and likely not all positive in the end...) discussing what are some of the biggest problems with training dogs/people and they said it is that people try to do what the trainer says and don't take the do...

Heh yeah Judy. I hope Jasper is doing well!

I have been thinking of all the other things the vet might do while she's under, like maybe x-ray her legs to be sure she's fine to do high jumps in agility.

Re: 8 Month Old Lab x Help Please

Just an idea for the fetch. Mine used to bring back tug toys, but not things like balls as changing the ball for a treat really wasn't interesting, but coming back for a tug is. So I first played fetch only with things I could tug. Now she is really into her ball outside and will bring it back as sh...

Re: Teeth

I was just thinking about Ansa's teeth so I'll partly "hijack" the post. So Ansa is four. Last time the vet said she should get some dentistry done in the winter. I'm not that happy about the anesthesia so a more natural cleaning would be better. So I got her some raw beef "pipe bones...

Re: Lead training

Hi! Welcome to the forum! My dog is the same kind of mix. :) They can be a handful and a bit crazy, but also very smart and super adorable. (If you facebook then there is a "I <3 my Sprollie" group where people will understand. :D Also great as it is for positive reinforcement. But of cour...
