Re: Should I get the vet to trim his nails?
I've been trimming our other dog's nails for quite some time, or I wouldn't even consider doing Onyx's. She's never indicated that she was in pain (and she's a wimp), so I feel fairly confident...Onyx gets stressed going in the car (or he just gets carsick...either way, he throws up and it's no fun ...

Re: Shadow won't come
Start small and with few distractions and big rewards. Coming to you from three feet away when he was already heading toward you = piece of meat. If you'd like, you could add a sit to the end of the recall so that eventually, huskies being intelligent, he'll learn that "come" means come to...

Re: please help!
Before we (or rather, the experienced dog people here, haha...) can really tell what the problem is, could you give us a schedule of a typical day in your house? Wake-up time, walk times, training times, feeding times...just what the day's like.

I would have "accidentally" fallen against and ripped up that poster...lol. Yay for making a difference! :D I hate having to defend my opinions, though I love it at the same time...I like to educate people, but whenever it's something I care about, my heart starts going overtime and my thr...

Re: Should I get the vet to trim his nails?
If nobody's ever hurt him while holding his paws, should it be a hold-and-get-over-it thing? Back when I didn't know much about dog training (but thought I did), I would trim the ridiculously long fur on the bottom of his feet...it probably tickled. He would growl at me but I would ignore it ("...

Re: Dog is too distracted to potty!
If she's not going completely outside, she's not completely potty trained. Look at the potty training thread, keep her in sight at ALL times, and follow the advice in the pinned potty training thread. She might have been potty trained at another house, but sometimes dogs feel there are different set...

Re: What has your smart dog figured out?
Well I don't know about Congress, but today Opal slipped out the door while people were installing our new TV stuff. She went outside, ran around a tree, then came back in and looked up to where we keep the treats. We didn't even have to call her back! Haha.

Re: Should I get the vet to trim his nails?
Often dog groomers are better than vets - do you know of anyone in that area who can be trusted? On sensitive dogs I just clip one nail a day. Try that? Clip, reward, end of, for that day. I'll look around for groomers. The problem with that is Onyx won't even let me touch his back feet (the ones t...

Should I get the vet to trim his nails?
So Onyx has really long nails and is sensitive about people touching his paws. I've been working on making foot-touching a happy thing for him, but even though he's getting better with his front feet, he's still really sensitive about his back feet. I think it might be because they're already sore f...

Re: Seasonal Affective Disorder in dogs
Onyx seems to get a new health problem every winter that the vets never know what to do with...might be similar. At any rate, it goes away come spring. Then, of course, it's too hot for him to do much during the summer.

I'm in a similar situation, and from what I've gathered reading the forums, Victoria recommends Animal Behavior College and Karen Pryor's dog training courses.

Good Online Dog Stuff Stores
Well, I just wanted to show you guys this website that sells collars (and matching leashes), but I figured we could all share our favorite places to get stuff for our pups! Collar Mania has nice, high-quality collars. I found it through a contest they did which Carolina Care Bullies (a great local P...

Re: Help... sudden submissive urination!
Has she been to the vet recently? It might be health-related rather than behavioral, or a mix of both. With sudden behavior changes, a lot of the experienced dog people here recommend a thorough vet exam to make sure it's not a health issue. (Also, completely off topic but still interesting - we hav...

Re: e collar?
I don't know if the intertube-like collars could stop a dog licking their front paws, but I have no experience with them. Have you tried putting an old sock on her foot, or another covering like that? I know most dogs don't like stuff on their paws, but it might be preferable to the e-collar.
