Re: general query re: neuter/spay
Time and time again I hear people say that responsible breeding is a cure for all ailments and behavior problems, but what I don't hear are people saying that no amount of breeding will get rid of problems. For example, on Animal Planet, breeders will claim that they find the "perfect" do...

Re: I am now training dogs at a rescue!
Yep - they don't display normal body language. Aggressive behaviour is 'expensive' and not something animals use lightly and even with terriers who we have bred to use aggression much more readily than other dogs, you would expect to see warning signs, even if only briefly. IF what I have been told...

Re: general query re: neuter/spay
Oops.. Meant to add, I am in the UK - the general feeling is that everything should be neutered and that entire males are liable to be aggressive and uncontrollable, and that entire females will develop pyometra at the drop of a hat. This attitude has got SO bad that now its very very rare for the ...

Re: vacations
I have heard that if you don't pick up your dog when you say you are, they euthanize them. What if an emergency came up and you weren't able to contact them right away? I'm not sure if this is true or not, but if it is, I am confused. Either that is rubbish, or it only applies to a very few boardin...

Re: I am now training dogs at a rescue!
This might sound like a stupid question, but how can you tell when a dog has been punished for growling?

Re: vacations
What's the verdict on boarding? I have never tried it and I'm concerned about strangers watching my dog and following MY guidelines. Having a dogsitter takes a lot of trust, just like a babysitter for kids. Does anyone have written contracts with people?

Re: Irresponsible
little confused as to what was wrong with the parkour dog. I agree there is some risk to what the dog is doing, but ALL dog sports are like that. heck walking down the street is risky. maybe I am missing something. Parkour is not a dog sport, it is a human sport. As for comments like, "walking...

while a pet/dog professional should be held to a higher expectation of knowledge for their profession, we do need to be careful how much finger waging we do. We aren't born with knowledge about dog training and behavior. these are learned skills. And never underestimate desperation and or frustrati...

Re: Does anyone rent and have a dog?
you might also try building a reputation with your landload first before asking. let them get to know you a bit. pay on time, keep the place up etc. The issue is liability. Not even a good reputation with the landlord/landlady would change the fact that if something happened, they would be responsi...

Re: Does anyone rent and have a dog?
Seem's like property which allows a dog is virtually impossible. I can never see me being able to afford to own and therefore my dream of owning a dog is never going to happen :( I'm a really sensible adult and I wouldn't let a dog destroy a property. Is there hope for me out there? Is anyone fortu...
