Re: What is your dog NOT good at?

Jock is not good at walking on slippery floors, not chewing his box, not tolerating motorbikes. Peppa is not good at........... well, right now her ears seem to be painted on, so listening. Pippa is not good at doing something when you ask. She's one of those "I'll get around to it" kind o...

Why do they pile more gear on?

I was up the street this evening with my husband about to do some shopping. A lady came up onto the footpath with a golden retriever x something with a HUGE amount of gear on. 1. A muzzle similar to those used on racing greyhounds 2. A halti, because apparently the dog pulls (the lead attachment was...

Re: We read her wrong, and now she's paying the price.

Hi Jacksdad, Thanks for the reply, and advice. I found out this morning that Peppa will do anything for a piece of Kabana. We had a guy drop in today to ask my husband about a car, and I had Peppa out on lead doing some heel work. She saw this guy and went nuts on the end of the lead, barking, growl...

Re: Very Submissive Behavior - ready to give up!

This post may make me unpopular, but so be it. It's good that you've come here for advice and tips, and not dumped her at a shelter or had her put down. (The RSPCA near where I used to live had to remove their front fence because of the number of people that would tie their unwanted dogs to the fenc...

Re: My dog doesn't like any dog treats.

My guys are a little different. Pippa - the old white Boxer will bend over backwards for any thing that looks like it might be a treat. Peppa - the young border collie girl loves the Julieus dog straps, biscuit bones, pizza crusts, anything really, as long as it's accompanied by a "Good" o...

Re: Ignorance

I'll admit that I've used correction (or choke) chains for years, but only after teaching the dog to walk properly on a suitable collar. I tend to go for wider collars than most as it doesn't put as much direct pressure on any one spot on the back of the neck or the throat. I still use correction ch...

Re: My 3 dogs - Pippa, Jock and Peppa

For those who couldn't see the photo of Pippa, here's another one. She isn't happy about being tied up like a 'Regular Dog', but it was a necessity that day as we had a snake catcher out trying to find a tiger snake in our outside laundry (Pippa's favourite sunning place). http://i1079.photobucket.c...

We read her wrong, and now she's paying the price.

Hi All, I'm very new here, but I've been training dogs for many years, sadly, after watching many 'Its me or the dog' episodes, I've read so many dogs wrong it's not funny. I've never been into dominance, choke chain, prong collars etc, more distraction techniques, so it could have been far worse. W...

Re: Hi all, can someone help please?

Hi JudyN, Obviously if it's going to cause him more harm than good, I'm going to have to find another option. Leaving him in a safe room isn't really as option as this is a rental property and the owners are already trying to find a way to kick us out. Because he has a tendency to be destructive, (p...

Re: Hi all, can someone help please?

Hi Nettle, Thank you for the reply. You've made me sit and think about what I really want from these dogs. Let's start with Jock. 1. I don't want him to flinch every time someone moves. He was almost relaxed on his mat today chewing on a toy, I reached across to get the treat bucket and he launched ...

Hi all, can someone help please?

Hi everyone, My name is Jenna, and I'm the owner of 3 gorgeous dogs. To all, this is going to be a long post. Dog 1 is Jock. He's an entire (at the moment) Border Collie male coming on 3 years old, and is a retired sheepdog. (Retired because my back is destroyed and have had to get rid of the sheep,...
