Re: Help with our new puppy who is driving me mad!

Im sorry but I find this very sad that you are considering rehoming your puppy (who is a very very young baby) for being just that - a puppy. Hes not naughty....dogs do not sit there trying to be naughty...hes justbeing a puppy. Puppies, like babies, dont come 'ready trained'...we need to show them,...

Re: My dogs tries to attack a dog she doesn't know

So are you using the clicker to get her attention? So you click and she looks at you? If so this isnt the correct way to use it...the click is meant to be used to mark a behaviour, so the dog knows when it has 'done good', and then a treat follows after as a reward. Apologies if you are using it thi...

Re: My dogs tries to attack a dog she doesn't know

When you say the clicker 'doesnt always work'...what do you mean? How are you using the clicker? It isnt used to stop a dogs reaction...rather it is paired with food and over time aims to change the dogs association with other dogs.

Re: Help me please..... I am desperate!!

When you say he doesnt listen to you....what are you trying to get him toi listen to? Have you done training with him? If so, what kind of training and what have you taught him? How much exercise does he get and is this off lead or on lead, per day? Cockers are very high energy dogs and very intelli...

Re: Help with Highly fear aggressive dog!

I have come into this late, but have a look at some of my old old posts from last year....the advice i got was great. My dog was VERY fear aggressive towards stramgers. He is a load better now, but its taken a lot of time and consistency. Hes a bit hit and miss to other dogs too but i am working on ...

Re: itchy skin, remedies and diet

what is your dog fed on? I use Advocat....I mainly use it because it is the only thing that covers for lungworm, which is around in our area and can be a killer. There are no one set of symptoms to look out for either, and my vet has seen cases recently that have shown in some really horrible sympto...

Re: Thoughts on gentle leaders and harnesses?

I am not a fan of headcollars/gentle leaders because they oten ride up into dogs eyes, and there is so much possiblity of the dog injuring its neck if the dog pulls or if the owner pulls back. I like the harnesses with a ring on the back and front, and then you can use a double ended lead. I am like...

Re: Thoughts on gentle leaders and harnesses?

I personally think harnesses are great....if you choose the right one. I would always suggest a harness especially if pup pulls even a little bit as it takes the pressure off the neck...it obviously wont stop the pulling, but while you are teaching loose lead walking it means no damage to the pups n...

Re: When to see a trainer?

If I were you I would go down the behaviourist route rather than the trainer route. The two do go hand in hand, but with Bella, you are looking more to increase confidence and work on her issues rather than 'train' her...and fear aggression is something that needs to be worked with correctly. Like y...

Re: Puppy Play Biting getting out of control

What are you stuffing the kong with? Smear peanut butter inside in so she has to lick it out....feed her meals from kongs or from treat dispensing toys such as the Kong Wobbler or Nina Ottosson treat maze....you can put anything in kongs so be creative! I put anything from mashed banana, cream chees...

Re: Dog Training Names

Yes thats true...and I do want to avoid cheesy and too cutesy names,. The only other dog trainer in my area (whos classes I went to watch recently and was not impressed) is called Taking The Lead...which I like. But cant think of anything along those lines because my brain seems to be unwilling to h...
