Darting out of the house and biting

I have a two year old male Beagle. He doesn't have a very strong recall, but we're working on that. Today, right after Bagel came back from his exercise, my mom, my sister and I decided to go to the store. We were leaving, and it was really windy so I think the wind kind of blew the door open. We we...

Re: Loose Lead walking

Talk to him, I always say, "This way" in a happy voice. Once big mistake that us humans often make is not speaking to our dogs when we are training them, we are concentrating too much on what we and our dog is doing, we need to use our voice to encourage our dogs like when I say "Thi...

Re: Loose Lead walking

Hello! I just had a quick question. I just started training my two year old male Beagle loose lead walking. I turned the moment he passed my knee, but he refuses to follow me when I turn so I just end up dragging him towards me. He just stands there, looking at me, clearly confused as to why I'm sud...

Thank you for your reply. It was a big encouragement :D

I think I got too excited seeing all the progress. I guess I pushed it too fast.
We'll have to take several steps back..

Re: Dealing with a dog aggressive on leash..

So I guess for an update, Bagel has been doing fantastic, up until today. I've been working on him being reactive towards other dogs while on a walk, and I've been doing the watch me, the emergency u-turns, etc. and he's shown great progress, or so I thought. He had been ALOT more calm even when he ...

Re: Growling before snapping.

So I have a bit of a problem here. I have been trying to get my family to stop with all the cuddles. But it is nearly impossible to get my parents to stop. They have been good for awhile. But not anymore.. I guess with their own human kids grown up, Bagel is their new "baby". I have tried ...

Re: Dealing with a dog aggressive on leash..

Thank you for all of your wonderful advice! I really do love this site :D What may help is 2 leads or a double ended lead, once clipped to a harness the other to the collar, you have 2 points of contact that you can use to help control him. The harness will keep his body closer to you and the collar...

Re: Dealing with a dog aggressive on leash..

Thank you for your advice! First you are going to need to address your own anxiety issues. do you know what your anxious about? is it not knowing what to do when bagel reacts? or are you not yet confident in implementing what you know needs to be done? or are you worried about what other people are ...

Dealing with a dog aggressive on leash..

Yesterday, I took Bagel out on a walk to a nearby school that had an open fenced field that is open to the public. I got frustrated at something that happened while we were walking, (not related to Bagel) and when we got to the school, another dog was running around in the field, on the other side o...

Re: A pet store near my house...

It makes me sad to walk or drive pass the shop. What's more sad is that there seem to be more and more people going there each day. Saw them again today, they were selling puppies again in the same place. Made my blood boil  My sister's friend told me that her friend bought two puppies from th...

A pet store near my house...

There's a pet store near my house in California. I went in there once before, and pure bred puppies were kept in big "boxes" full of sawdust/tanbark. When I say boxes, they are not one of those moving boxes. They're like rooms with all foor sides made out of wood but no ceiling so that peo...

Re: Food and Itching

Haha, thank you! I always say he's the handsomest Beagle ever :D My parents do feed him alot...They spoil him rotten  But I know they mean well. I've cut down the amount of food he eats to a cup a day, and took him on a 30 minute walk today morning. He seemed to really enjoy that. Hopefully th...

Food and Itching

I have a year and a half old male Beagle, and he's having a little bit of problem with eating his food and itching. When we first got him he was on Costco brand puppy food. He is our first dog so back then we didn't know anything about high quality food. Just thought whatever we can get is fine. The...
