Re: Dogs Fighting/Dominance Issues

To give you a practical example regarding food: I used to feed one dog Blue Wilderness. It cost me $53ish for a 30lb bag. This bag would last him nearly three months. None of the brands you listed are much better than Pedigree, sadly (Boots and Barkley is even worse!)

Re: Dogs Fighting/Dominance Issues

In addition to Emmabeth's wonderful advice, I would suggest changing the brand of food (Pedigree is full of corn and lots of other terrible ingredients and sugars - it's like having a toddler exist entirely on McDonald's and pixie stix!) as well as changing mealtimes to be fed twice daily, rather th...

Re: Dogs Fighting/Dominance Issues

What brand of dog food? And am I reading correctly that they are free fed (food down all the time)?

Re: Favourite Dog Breed

I love terriers, particularly APBTs. Would I own another? Probably, though I wouldn't want one with another dog. I would definitely own another Doberman and while I love Remy, I'll probably stay away from herding breeds in the future. I also love Leonbergers, I just couldn't keep up with the shedding.

Re: dog food

Iams is full of corn. Try and look for a grain free formula, and you'll typically have to go to a pet specialty store for good brands. :D

Re: Dog Foods

The boys are on raw now, but before, Sampson was on Blue Wilderness and Remy was on Solid Gold Sundancer.

Re: My new friend

Just going by that pic, I'd say boy. Yes, I feed entirely Repashy (the peach flavour!). Occasionally I'll offer dubia roaches since I breed them for the other three lizards (two beardeds and a frilled), but only my girl will eat them. My male is a bit picky - he'll eat only the peach Repashy and not...

Re: My new friend

Cute little flame/dalmatian! I have two myself, they're awesome little lizards. My female likes to sit in her crested gecko diet bowl and stuff her face.

Re: Puppy Issues

Excellent advice. I just wanted to chime in on the how much physical exercise for a puppy question; the rule of thumb is five minutes per month of age. So a three month old puppy should get 15 minutes of walking daily. Because of this, you'll need to really up the mental stimulation. My Catahoula wi...

Switching to raw - dog has missing teeth

So I've finally given up on finding a quality dog food that Remy my 4 year old Catahoula can eat (thankfully Sampson is just a walking garbage disposal) and have decided to just put both the boys on raw. It's something I've been researching for a while, but I did have one question. Remy is missing s...

Re: Neutering

I disagree with marking/humping being reduced or eliminated with neutering. My nearly two year old Doberman is intact, has never marked inappropriately and is seemingly growing out of his humping stage. My four year old neutered Catahoula boy however humps like mad and will mark in new places. He's ...

Re: Does anyone rent and have a dog?

When I had my pit bull terrier, I had to rent privately (thank god for Craigslist!), but I'm currently renting a rather nice apartment from an agency. I had to negotiate a bit for Sam my doberman, but the office girls love him now. His breed and him being intact were both points of contention and I'...

It sounds to me like he spends the majority (10+ hours) in his crate.... Would you say I'm understanding that correctly?

Re: Aggression when Guests or New Roomie Try to Leave

Just my opinion... I would be wary of this advice since it has roots in pack theory, which has been proven to be not only not effective but can actually be harmful for the dog (and human if it all goes wrong!). There are good points in it (such as not letting your roommate approach Fenway, but rathe...

Re: How to Get Cavalier to Play

One of my boys is the same as your Chandler. He's a four year old Catahoula and wouldn't chase a ball or play tug if his life depended on it. He will sit next to me and watch my two year old Dobe-hooligan fall over himself trying to fetch and give me a look like "you want me to do that? Ugh!&qu...
