Re: No Bark Dog Collar - Anti-Bark Collar :: Good or Bad?
Telpinaro, please read the rules for the forum. We do not advocate any sort of P+ or P- training here, and the spray collars definitely fall into that category. Citronella can linger for up to an hour and if it smells foul to us, imagine how much of a punishment it would be to a dog!

Re: Courtesy posting - Pyr won't stop barking outside at night.
I think SHE is willing to do the work, but I highly, HIGHLY, doubt her husband is. She says she's going to try to bring him in at night and give him a bully stick and elk antler to chew on. The question is, will she give in to his whinging? It's really a shame that this dog is a glorified garden gno...

Re: Courtesy posting - Pyr won't stop barking outside at night.
Update to this: "he stays out all day - when he is inside when we are not home he destroys the house - went through a window twice - if we leave him outside, he stays on the porch all day or walks the property (we have 5 acres surrounded by 150 acres of conservation land). He hate loud noises, ...

Courtesy posting - Pyr won't stop barking outside at night.
I have a friend of mine who has presented me with this issue. Casper is a Great Pyrenees, 2 years old, neutered, rescued. I'm in the process of gathering more info, have said no to the shock collar and suggested they keep him on a line to reel him in at night. Here is the problem, from his owner: &q...

Re: "Cream" dobermans???
We have a rescued albino Dobe in Sampson's agility class. Her temperament is lovely, (she's HUGE, horribly oversized), but she can't really do much in bright sunlight. She seems to perform well in the indoor ring though. Her owners typically have to put sunblock on her as well.

Re: "Cream" dobermans???
BYB. She has the Z right there in her pedigree. Most irresponsible breeders will try and pass off albino as "cream" or "light fawn." They are 100% albino though, and from a horribly inbred line. They have so many health and temperament issues in a breed that is already pla...

Re: Dremel and Nail Clipper Recommendations
I have these clippers: http://www.amazon.com/Millers-Forge-Stainless-Steel-Clipper/dp/B0002ARUKQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1363055307&sr=8-2&keywords=dog+nail+clippers They're not large or unwieldy and stay sharp for a while. This is the dremel I have as well: http://www.amazon.com/Dremel-7...

Re: American bulldog?
Quite welcome! I used to do a lot with pit bull type rescue, so I learned so much about the different breeds in the type - APBTs, AmStaffs, Staffy bull terriers, American bulldogs (both types), Old Tyme bulldogs, etc. A good friend of mine had a lovely Scott's type Am. Bulldog; she looked like a muc...

Re: American bulldog?
Keep in mind, there are two "types" of American Bulldog - the Scott's and the Johnson's. The Scott's line is smaller (70-90 I think is the norm), more bull-and-terrier type, whereas the Johnson's is bigger (80-120 pounds), with a face more like a boxer's and much more heavily built.

Re: Defensive aggression
Just wanted to chime in on the Catahoula specific bit (as Ari and GWD have made excellent points)... 'houlas are not known for tolerating other dogs well. I was told by a reputable Catahoula breeder when I got my boy that dog parks should not be in the forefront of my mind as the breed generally doe...

Re: Martingale?
I use martingales with my boys. If fitted properly, the collar should just be snug when pulled tight, preventing the dog from backing out of the collar. It should NEVER be tight enough to choke. A choke chain doesn't have that "stop" built into it, and will continue to tighten and choke th...

Re: Rottweilers
I was told by a few Dobe breeders that was the reason why they docked their pups' tails - prone to injury. Whereas I read online it was just to give one less thing for someone to grab onto while they were guarding, which to me, seems more likely. I have seen a few dobes with natural tails and they'r...

Re: Possessiveness and other problems.
I have two dogs as well, and I have to agree - either one of them would be quite pleased to see the other go. I have Sampson (Nearly four, intact male Doberman) and Remy (5ish, neutered male Catahoula Leopard Dog). I rescued Sam when he was just a pup and at the time, I had a pit bull terrier b*tch ...

Re: Jealous? Territorial? Help!
Bumping this up for the OP as tbe problem is NOT dominance. OP can you give us a run down if your dogs' day? What food they are on, how often they are fed, are they both spayed or intact, etc. I would feed them in separate rooms to prevent your silky from bullying her way into your Shih Tzu's food t...

Re: Help with puppy biting and scared of winter objects
I agree, he honestly sounds bored. Also, look into possibly changing the food. Iams is full of fillers and sugars which can actually wind a dog up (imagine if you had kids eating nothing but McDonald's all the time. You'd be going mad!). Try to find a grain-free, high quality kibble. Orijen, Taste o...
