Re: What will your next dog be?

Lol! He does look a bit manic there... Which is exactly how he is! Everything must be done with 100% enthusiasm. He even sulks with 100% enthusiasm, sliding along the floor like a weird looking worm. I managed to train him to crawl using his pattented sliding method too, though he will still only do...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Well he saw a cat the following day (albeit at a distance). Still focussed, but he came away when I said 'leave it' and got a treat. Normally he would be 'GRRRRRR CAT!' no matter the distance. So unless he didn't notice it was a cat it did seem to change his behaviour. I won't be doing it again thou...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Jasper playing it cool! I don't think Merlin would have, and he's not even bred to chase things. Although I did accidently do some punishment on Merlin the other day, feel so guilty about it. We saw a cat, I pulled Merlin back the same moment he lunged forward, so he ended up getting lead checked. I...

Re: What will your next dog be?

Bax is sooo cute. My mum would probably try and steal him if she saw him. My mum walks her 17 year old Yorkie and when they are out she says they are 'on a mission.' It is SO true. She marches along, then stops abruptly and won't budge until HER sniffing is done, then just marches off. And her...

Re: Merlin's Family

His sister was one of the puppies we almost chose. She was the first on your lap and just lay there nibbling your fingers. But I had read all the (bad) advice about choosing a puppy - dont get the first one up to you, don't get the bully, don't get this, that, bla bla bla. So we picked the one who c...

Merlin's Family

I keep in contact with Merlin's breeder and she sends me photos. They ended up keeping his sister because the home she went to had a resident dog who unfortunately attacked her, so they took her back and thought it was too traumatic for her to rehome her again. Merlin's mum was over the moon about i...

Re: What will your next dog be?

Oh god no I couldn't live with another Terrier! Everything they do is serious business... Even fun. Same reason I just couldn't get a Border Collie, sooo intense. I have been put off rescues by my parent's Chihuahua x so I get what you mean, Judy. You take on the responsibility, and 15 years l...

Re: What will your next dog be?

Sheltie! No question. I need at least one half sensible dog in my life. Having met so many Shelties now I am just sold they would be a perfect fit for me. I too perfer bigger dogs, but my house and garden just isn't a good fit for one realistically. Though saying that Merlin is pretty much up ...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Ultimate test of Merlin's guarding was had today, and I think he did really well. He was walking around the reserve with Marley the Golden Retriever. The pair of them are so at ease in each other's company it really is lovely, and they often just potter around and investigate things together. Merlin...

Re: Vent!

Poor girl :( I think after a year it would probably be kinder to just rehome her, unless it is with people she already knows.

Re: Vent!

@Nettle Yeah, he definately redirected. I sort of don't blame him though, when the BC went for him the BT was also right there pushing into Merlin despite Merlin being afraid. I was lucky though that despite Merlin's carry on, the BT didn't react at all. He just acted like Merlin was an annoying gro...

The photos! Yes I really do take far too many pictures of Merlin. Problem with Norfolk is it isn't beautiful on camera. In person seeing for miles is awe inspiring, on camera you've just walked into the set of mad max. I had to fill the memory card with something! Here are a few of my favs, an...

Re: Vent!

Knew I shouldn't have made this post, life has a way of kicking you in the backside. Took Merlin out briefly this morning for a 30min romp between thunder storms. Firstly we ran into a Caparthian Shepherd Dog who, well, behaved like one and prolly wanted to eat him. I know the owners though (they ha...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Will make the thread either later tonight or tomorrow, we're both knackered! Need to pick out the best photos otherwise you'd have 1000 photos to look through. Lake District is just a marvel, I would live there in a heartbeat. But my OH is a bit more social and city loving for us to take the p...
