Counter-conditioning with touchy paws?

So my old dog, Onyx, is very touchy about his paws - that is, he doesn't want you touching them. I've seen some counter-conditioning videos, and I like the concept behind it. I want to make sure I've got it down in theory before I start actually trying it, though. His reaction is to try to pull away...

Re: Dealing with a dog-reactive dog

Sounds like your on the right track. keep it up. it takes time, but you can get there. What their trainer suggested was, upon seeing another dog or people walking or anything, pull out a cheese stick or hot dog and constantly feed him a little nibble. Sore hands were common, but what a change! If t...

Re: My dog doesn't like any dog treats.

You can try Whole Life's treats - they are freeze-dried meat that my dogs love. I use them for "special" times, like grooming and nail-clipping, but if your dog is picky, they might help. Also, go for softer, smellier treats. If you can, take her to the pet store to see which treats she sm...

Re: Ex-fighting foster dog

As far as the foreleg-biting goes, that's how the Malamute I dogsit plays with his housemate, a Mastiff. Ami (malamute) will bite and shake Zeus's legs, and Zeus doesn't feel a thing and just play-bites back. That might just be how your dog plays. Also, do you know that the dog is a ex-fighter, or d...

Dealing with a dog-reactive dog

So I dogsit/walk dogs for a family every weekday - they work all day - and their Malamute, Amadeus, was very dog reactive. If he even saw a dog from far away, he would instantly fixate on it and if it got closer, go beserk - barking, lunging, jumping around, etc. What their trainer suggested was, up...

http://i1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff405/CS_CrazyEmm/IMG_0409.jpg Here's my Opal. She's from German working lines. :) She's intelligent to the extreme - and she's chained her own behaviors. We give her a treat every time she comes inside, so she'll get us to take her outside, then she'll run a cir...

My dogs - Opal, Onyx, and Marble

Firstly, here is my German Shepherd Opal running in slow-motion - I'll have more videos of her later. She's a camera hog, haha...so active and pretty! :) Lunging Opal in slow-mo http://i1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff405/CS_CrazyEmm/IMG_0209.jpg http://i1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff405/CS_CrazyEmm/I...

Anyone else had problems with Fromm?

So I dogsit for a mastiff (Zeus) extensively - I see him at least an hour every weekday, and often longer and on the weekends - and he's had soft stools since forever. Apparently, when he was a puppy, he had some sort of virus that gave him diarrhea, in addition to being on a pretty low-quality food...

Re: Another Guess the Breed.

The GSD was the mom - one of the owner's posts mentioned that they saw the mom at the shelter and she looked full GSD. :)

Otherwise, wow! Gorgeous dog. Hope you enjoy her! I agree that the ears do look pretty beagle-ish. Her muzzle is a lot more rounded than a GSD, both in profile and straight-on.

Re: PediPaws Review

We got one and used it for a while, but even twice daily for quite some time, it wasn't enough to keep up with our GSD's claws. I just got a guillotine clipper, and brought out the freeze-dried chicken...she only gets it when she comes inside off-leash (our yard isn't fenced in, so we make sure she ...

Dog Trainer-in-Training from NC

Well, I'd like to think of myself as in training...more like I'm practicing with my dogs and my extended "pack..." all positive though! More on them all soon. Mostly what I want to get out of the way is that I'm 19, from North Carolina (who is really kicking animal-abuse butt right now...4...
