Re: Vent!

Maybe you could direct her toward this "breeder":

Seriously, I want to vomit after flipping through that page. Read the "contract" section if you really want a good laugh (or cry or vomit).

Re: Vent!

He's not as big as most of the nasty looking T-Rex pit bulls out there. Chance is a "game-bred" island pit bull (bred for fighting), so he's leaner and thinner. Pictures don't tend to do him justice, he actually is quite muscular. https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8494/8373793389_b72245c507_c...

This is more Chance-dog's forte: https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8371/8373792595_98e12246a7_c.jpg I can't say I blame him, I hate the cold! On an unrelated note, Chance got bit in the face yesterday by a westie  . I live in an apartment neighborhood where pit bulls aren't allowed, and my pit (s...

Re: Is it cruel to keep my dog in a single-dog household?

I have a dog-aggressive dog who, weirdly enough, thrives when he's around his closest friends (dog friends, that is). Find a dog or two that he really does well with and make it a point to have weekly play dates (or in my case just adopt his best friend ...). Dog parks are AWFUL for interactio...

Re: Fleas

From the vet side of things - I know chemical treatments are unpopular 'round these parts, but fleas and other parasites are tricky little stinkers and sometimes chemical warfare is required. I always recommend with infestations to treat all animals (including cats or ferrets or rabbits, etc) in the...

Re: Vent!

My Caribbean native Chance-dog flatly refuses to go outside without his sweater if it's cold out. Needless to say, visits to Ohio for Christmas are a bit of a shock to the poor guy.

Re: hyperactivity caused by high protein diet

Exercise, routine, consistent training, good quality diet, and in extreme cases behavior modification drugs. GSD are a working breed - high energy, high intelligence. Couple that with stress from being in a kennel, you get boredom and anxiety, the recipes for OCD-type behaviors to develop (genetics ...

Re: hyperactivity caused by high protein diet

The video wasn't working for me, but this very much sounds like a dog with OCD that needs to be medicated. Prozac, Xanax, amitryptalline, all drugs that you can talk to your vet about (these are commonly used ones in the US, I can't speak for Eurpoe).

Re: To neuter and when to neuter..

For what it's worth - personality wise, neutering really doesn't change the dog's personality. Every dog I've ever neutered has been pretty much the same before and after. I had Chance as an entire male for several months before I was able to neuter him, and really nothing changed. Well, alright so ...

Re: Vent!

All in moderation 8) . Little bit of cheese here and there isn't going to cause harm, but I see lotssss of of bacterial overgrowth in little dogs from eating too much meat or cheese. Big dogs too, but probably 60-70% are the little guys. Plain low fat yogurt would probably benefit Sandy's sensitive ...

Re: Vent!

the trainer told us emphatically that dogs cannot digest milk, cheese, ice cream, yoghurt, etc. My apologies for taking so long to answer you, it's been a crazy work week that's been forced to a grinding halt by a terrible sinus infection. Anywho, it's not necessarily that they can't digest dairy p...

Re: Vent!

If they want to keep feeding the crusts with peanut butter at lunch they can always extend the dogs walk! GASP, what?! I have a 50/50 client base . 50% are willing to increase exercise, whether that means increasing walk time, play time, or swim time. The other 50% look at me like I'm crazy when I ...
