Re: Vent!
:x On Facebook in the last few days I've seen pictures of a dog being strangled and blowtorched, a duck being torn apart by a group of people in some 'festival', and a GSD wth half his face blown off by a firework :( These have been posted by personal friends who care deeply about animal welfare, a...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
I wish I had the balls to use that line next time someone gave me the frowny face about Breeze's  Bear in mind they might be thinking 'Oh damn, now my dog's going to kick off.' I often ask people if their dog is unneutered and they can be quite defensive - it's hard convincing them that I'm no...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
I would normally be scowling like mad at someone hauling their dog up the road, whether they had a harness on or not...today that person was me... Both dogs normally walk on a loose lead past any stationary cats...and of course both look extremely interested at cats on the move, but never c...

Re: Beyond Tolerance - Shape For Demand
I think the take away is there should be enthusiasm for *each part* individually first, rather than trying to chain them all together straight away. So yes, classical conditioning, but the important part is breaking it down and really working on each stage separately first

Re: Vent!
It's not like me to feel like giving up, but I feel 'changing the world one person at a time' isn't working right now. :? Don't forget to add the people whose worlds you ARE changing! Breeze still has his knackers and that is all down to you! It's very tempting to buy into the idea that a quick sni...

Re: chewing
Also if she has chew toys but she's not interested in chewing them... well then they're not really chew toys! She says so :) Have you tried bully sticks? They were an absolute life saver for me when my puppy was in his chewy stage. I've never known a dog to not love them. You could also try Kongs. M...

Re: Am I "making him worse"?
If he says 'Why can't we go this way?' - why can't you go the way he wants? :) I realise it's not always possible but sometimes I do let Breeze just guide me where he wants to go, rather than choosing for him. Do you that's a possibility? One thing to consider is if it might make it harder for him t...

Re: Feeling guilty :(
Amy! Don't panic! You know that you do everything possible for Sasha - more than most would, plenty would have given up on her long before now. No vet can give you any grief about that, be confident that you can answer any of their questions honestly. And I'm sure every single person here has had th...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
The more stressed out he is, the more Breeze scrats. He does it a LOT when we go on our more urban walks around the cemetery. I would say it's probably just a kind of 'stress reliever' action, based on absolutely no more evidence than that :) There are scent glans in the feet so scratting is very m...

I've just come across this: http://www.ultimatepuppy.com/ which seems like it might be a nice resource, but I don't have the time or energy to decipher it at the moment. If anyone wants a look through it and to find a nice place for it to live on the forum, feel free!
