Re: What to eat first?

My spanial does exactly the same thing ... even eating leftover gravy, plopping the dog sausages on the floor and snaffling my home made gravy first which may or may not have some soft carrott, tomato and other allowed vegetables - he loves a tiny amount of mashed kumera (sweet potato) and will eat ...

Re: Aggressive puppy

Thanks for your courteous approach to my post :D and yes I'm not a professional so perhaps my advice should be disregarded...

Good luck with your puppy, can you afford a professional to take a look and see what might be the best option for your pup?

Re: Aggressive puppy

Many years ago we also bought a puppy from a shelter who was aggressive/terrified of other dogs and demonstrated this by attacking any other animal in sight - was execllent with humans). Our puppy had been badly beaten up by other shelter dogs during "socialisation" and we had a major issu...

Re: Ridiculous rules regarding dogs

Puppy farms do exist here but are hidden, like the UK we are suffering a plethora of badly bred and socialised small "designer dogs" who can be bred in secret in appalling squalor on a lifestyle block. I have refused to use many pet shops in my local area for selling dogs from dubious pupp...

Re: Ridiculous rules regarding dogs

I understand a little more regarding rules in the US, but in NZ you cannot sue for personal injury arising from a dog bite or even an accident - we have a national compensation scheme called ACC which treats and even pays if you are off work 80% of your earnings.. as for being able to sue a shop own...

Re: Ridiculous rules regarding dogs

That's the supreme irony here, any idiot can breed many many dogs for big bucks totally unregulated and puppy farms totally exist especially in the small dog market - these get sold to pet shops and wow they are unhappy traumatised animals who need a lot of love and attention and usually do not get ...

Ridiculous rules regarding dogs

As a dog owner I do understand that some people do not take time to ensure their dog is a pleasant and well mannered canine, but increasingly in New Zealand it is beginning to feel that dogs are unwelcome anywhere. The local dog exercise area is virtually unusuable as it has an unfenced train line r...

Re: Stealing

Ok professional training was by an SPCA and our local vet approved trainer and who helped us teach Del to obey all basic commands and enjoy some basic agility. she said she thought the dogs identified me as the boss - possibly because when Del was small I was at home all day first 6 months. I feed t...

Re: Stealing

I have to admit I am the one who has done most of her training.. we did buy in professional training for a while - to prevent issues. I know Boxers can be a handful and I was adament we would not have any issues (god I sound like some horrendous competitive Mom type)... I am very lucky with t...

Stealing

Hi am wondering about this issue with our 18 month old Boxer dog. We have a happy household containing an English Springer who is 2 and a Boxer (the Boxer is the dominant dog out of the pairing). they have plenty of toys, constant access to the outside (dog door) 2 walks on a beach per day and gener...

Dogs as Xmas presents

Having read yet another distressing and unacceptable article regarding dogs as unwanted Xmas gifts I have posted the following to my facebook page. Our dogs have not done very much of this except for the washing bed linen episodes but do other dog owners think this is a fair assessment of why you sh...

Re: Been Sitting on This...

Why is it that such an important job, sorting out nuitrition for children, only pays minimum wage? You are a complete saint, having seen how kids fuss and pick over food in school canteens I couldn't do it. Teaching is the easy part ;) Hope the job goes well and stays rewarding... can I just say as ...

Bones and barking

We would like some advice and an idea if we should intervene in this situation between our two dogs. We have a 16month old English Springer spaniel (male), and a Boxer ***** who is coming up to the six month mark. They adore each other and us and apart from some mild car refusal we have, touch wood,...

Re: Car refusal

Max got in the car himself today, after using the backseat and exit advice thanks! I got my partner to drive me around in the boot of the car to see what it is like (highly illegal in NZ but didn't get caught) and yes the bumps, noise and heat even from the autumnal sun are bad even for humans. I di...
