Re: I Need Your Help...

I know nothing about electronics, and this is probably a very dumb question. But what would happen if the charge were to come into contact with the metal of a prong or choke chain, especially if the collar was faulty ?

Re: Could do with some honest opinions

I've just read you post Ari, and I agree if everything you say. Why can't my OH. :? :? Jake has a really good quality of life, the only restriction - he is not allowed to be with visitors. He still gets loads of walks, play, love etc.. On the other hand our quality of life has gone downhill. GRRRRR ...

Re: Could do with some honest opinions

Thank you all so much. It' makes me feel so much better, just to talk about it. I just wish John would listen to you - or me for that matter. Jacksdad, I shouldn't have used the word epilepsy, I should have said seizures. It was Nettle who suggested it may be epilepsy, when I came on here for help o...

Could do with some honest opinions

Hello Everyone, I got some great advice on here last year, but I don't suppose you remember our problems -- so I'll just give a very quick rundown. Our 5 yr old rescued German Shepherd attacked my partner's granddaughter and exhibited really strange behaviour. Owing to this, he is being treated for ...

Re: I Need Your Help...

Ari, you described that really well, and I'd just like to give an genuine example. We've owned a fair few dogs, over the years, mainly GSD's and I'd trained them without much problem. Yes, I used a choke chain, as most owners of big dogs did in the past - that's what our training school advocted. I ...

Re: I Need Your Help...

wvvdiup1 The effort you're putting into this is admirable. I wish you every success. I believe the vast majority of dog owners want their dogs to be happy and wouldn't want to deliberately hurt them, in order to train them. But they do want their dogs to behave - how to achieve that is the point in ...

Re: I Need Your Help...

I just like to add my tuppence worth here, if that's ok. Whilst I agree with everything you say wvvdiup1, I also appreciate what DogNut is saying. Unfortunately, there are occasions when dogs need to be kept under control by their owners, otherwise there would be thousands more dogs euthanised becau...

Re: Shock Collar For Howling

. However once I've driven to my destination and leave him in the car for an hour whilst I do a bit of shopping, he is silent, and seems perfectly content...?! Just my opinion, but I think you could be right, in thinking he's attention seeking. My dog yaps and scratches incessantly when he's locked ...

Re: Shock Collar For Howling

Ari, Suzette and Nettle,

Very well said !!!!

You have argued the point so well, it just seems so obvious and common sense. It just makes me wonder why as it taken us humans so many years to even begin to "get it".

Re: tail chasing/circling

Hi hdomedion85 What an awful problem poor Logan has. We once saw a dalmation in the vets waiting room who had the same problem -- he had practically chewed his tail away. I'm not an expert, but It sounds to me like your dog has OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). We have that problem with our 6 yea...

Re: 'Fixing' Aggression

I found the video very interesting because it reminded me of two experiences we had with our last GSD (Sam), who was extremely reactive to other dogs and occasionaly people. Whether it was over enthusiasm or aggression I could never be sure. On the first occasion we took Sam to the local carnival, s...

Re: Thyroid testing

That sounds like the best option, but I've just looked at the website again, and they no longer appear to offer that service. It appears they have more advanced testing equipment, than normal diagnotic laboratories. Either the vet can send the blood to them or the vet can just draw the blood and the...

Re: Thyroid testing

Thanks RLTW, I was on here last year with about our dog Jake. You can read his story under my post "What would you do" (it's quite a long post I'm afraid). But to cut a long story very short - he had a major agressive incident. Following brilliant advice on here, we took him to vets and th...
