Re: Boxer/Lab mix so many issues
Again people, not all dogs are the same. But in general.....hormones CAN---NOT IN ALL CASES----play a role on behavior......it was a suggestion to think about getting her spayed....because when she is in heat, it could possibly affect her personality, as I know because I have two friends that have t...

Re: Boxer/Lab mix so many issues
First off, I never said spaying and neutering is a cure all for anything........But hormones do have some effect on behavior. And at her age, it won't make a big difference but it will help IN THE LONG RUN. Hormones don't have anything to do with fear.....I NEVER SAID THAT and wasn't refering to any...

Re: Boxer/Lab mix so many issues
Is there any reason why she is not spayed yet? This does not and will not replace exercise, but will help calm her down in the long run. Are you planning on breeding her? I hope not, just not good when we already have so many that need a home. What makes you think she is dominant? Many people really...

Re: OCD Tail Chasing
I am a little curious....do you ever walk away from him and leave the room to ignore him-----not when he is in his crate though....but when he is out? You know how kids will do things to get attention, even if it is negative attention? Sometimes dogs will do the same thing. No doubtedly does he have...

Re: Boxer/Lab mix so many issues
Sounds like an understimulated teenager. As she gets older, things will get better. Some dogs don't "mature" until about 2, sometimes 3 years of age. But think of it this way, human teens are teenagers for what, like7 years or so....at least your dog is only a teenager for less than half o...

jakesmom, I wish you all the best of luck. I hope that the medications help out. It sounds like a promising start. I will have you in my prayers. I am glad that you were able to find out what was the cause and make a difference for you and your dog. He is soooo lucky that he has you, many people wou...

Re: suddenly being aggressive after 2 1/2 years
Does he growl and snap when you go to pick him up at any other time? Is he sore anywhere that you are not aware of that picking him up exacerbates pain? Actually, I was trying to get to the bottom if he needed to see a vet. This was a quote from my first post, and it was unanswered, so in my second...

Re: dog trainer needs help with rescued lab
I absolutely agree about the running, that's why I would cut that down significantly......not a full hour run, which I think I had mentioned. But certainly walking twice daily will not hurt the 7 month old, and taking him on two different walks a day is fine. And your right, it is not my dog. But, I...

Re: Proper Greeting Behavior
She has to sit and stay in place while you open the door until you tell her she can get up. 1. Have someone who she knows and doesn't get super excited ring the door bell 2. Whe both you and your dogs go to the door, put them in a sit 3. Attempt to open door, they will get up 4. Close the door and d...

Re: WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
As everyone has said, many things can trigger seizures. Depending on what is triggering the seizure, food allergies, medications, alcohol---evening if he is not withdrawing large amounts can cause permenant brain damage in people, I am sure it wouldn't take nearly as much to do that in dogs. That wo...

Sorry it took me so long to respond. Well, at first, my dog Jager, I loved him very much, was clicker trained, well socialized and the whole nine yards. I took him everywhere so he could me people of all shapes and sizes and he had play dates with other dogs. We continued with dog training classes a...

Re: dog trainer needs help with rescued lab
1-2 hours is not going to hurt your 7 month old puppy. If you were going to have him do a lot of jumping, then yes as his growth plates are not fully developed. They play much longer and harder in doggie day cares, with break times of course, totalling to way more than 2 hours a day. A brisk hour wa...

Re: suddenly being aggressive after 2 1/2 years
Ok, so the bed is high. So, bring something into the room like an ottoman that he can use as a step ladder for himself. He'll be able to jump on that then on the bed. You are going to lure him off the bed. Luring is taking a treat to a dog's nose and guiding him to where you want him to be or what p...

Re: SCWT housetraining issues (split/moved thread)
The crate needs to be introduced slowly. All good things happen when in the crate. Her feeding happen when she is in the crate....do not close the door on her during this period. Let her go in and out as she pleases. Yummy chew toys are offered in the crate. When she starts going in the crate on her...

Re: dog trainer needs help with rescued lab
Once daily walking is not enough for an energetic puppy. He not only needs walking, but running would be good too. Several round of frisbee or ball throwing (well, maybe not frisbee until growth plates are closed), biking with him would be helpful......I'd say 1 hour to 2 hours of exercise daily plu...
