Re: What kind of mutt is he?
His coloring kind of remind me of a Bernese Mountain Dog, especially with the 'fluffy' looking coat, or another 'Mountain Dog' breed like - the Greater Mountain Swiss Dog, but these breeds aren't exactly everywhere (nor popular) so it reduces the chances of them having mixes out there... Although, I...

Re: Dog Breeds or Personalities that may Travel Better
I realize that about the size. I like papillons (7-12lbs) and kooikerhondjes (20-25lbs), but most of the dog breeds I enjoy are medium to large in size. Stubnosed breeds I know are banned from airplanes, but I'd try to avoid taking dogs on airplanes as much as possible anyway. I hopefully in my late...

Dog Breeds or Personalities that may Travel Better
I've been lurking and reading more than posting lately. It's the job, and that I'm not quite as hands on with dogs and training as I use to be. I did find a shelter here to volunteer at despite my TBD length of stay. I could be at this location 6 months or 2 years, but probably no more than that. Th...

Re: Another Guess the Breed.
I was guessing lab mix with german shepard.
Since 10 month is still a puppy body, it'd be interesting to see what the body structure is in a year to two years - that should tell you more if it's beagle, lab, or something else entirely.

Re: Rehabbing an Ex-Fighting Pit Bull?
I'd secure the fence. Chance just got attacked, if I got attacked and saw something else that might be a threat I'd try to run or chase it away too. Ever see humans who are afraid of dogs wave their arms, act big, and yell? I realize it's not quite the same - but there's two really good points in th...

Re: Not really Agression but a problem
I don't her to react when people hug me or walk with something like a big stick near me. Unless I ask her to. If on leash and outside the house she listens very well to me and I can do anything with her. She also has a foolproof come when outdoors if she just so happens leave my side or is told to ...

Re: Um... Cow Training Anyone?
Cow and dog mentalities are different. Dogs are highly interactive, preditory, and work in groups. Cows, while they stay in groups, don't quite have the same cooperation among the ranks, they are prey animals, and not so interactive at times, lol. Also domesticated dogs through the years have come t...

Re: Health of your dogs and where you got them?
Truthfully, if you do your research into the breeds and crosses/mixes to learn information about them, as well as learn how rescues, shelters, different breeders, as well as backyard breeders work, then you can figure out what to look for to get what you want and all the questions to ask. Also being...

A New Stage for Me
Hey all, I'm settling into a new job, a new place, (very-very far away from where I was previous), and basically a new stage now that I'm out of college. My job is in my field (engineer) and the main office has fairly nice hours. As a requirement for my job, I will have to travel, temporary move, an...

Re: Hunting: A Humane Practice?
Thanks for the info Nettle - that's how I thought it was in my head but I didn't have any background or actual knowledge to back it up. (I don't even know where I got what was in my head to begin with, lol)

Re: Hunting: A Humane Practice?
Just my personal opinion nightsrainfall, I feel that sending a pack of dogs in to fight a boar is a kind of a glorified version of pitbulls fighting against each other for "sport" it just seems wrong. Maybe it is because the boar can be so dangerous compared to a rabbit or a similar hunte...

Re: Hunting: A Humane Practice?
Ok, just to push the limits for fun. What do you think about protection work with dogs, hunting work with dogs, drug work with dogs, military work with dogs, and even therapy work with dogs. If you are using humane as a syname for 'nondangerous' for the dog (ie boar hunting is dangerous for the dog ...

Re: Humane or not?
Personally I'd avoid killing a hog with a dog like the plague for other reasons then the debate on if it's an acceptable solution to the hog problem. Using well-trained dogs to flush out hogs (through barking and running, not getting close enough to bite or be boar-ed), I could understand. I've seen...

Re: "Aggressive" Dog
I agree wholly with these. As for aggression - as a professional, it's a word I refute at every opportunity. Scaredy dogs aren't aggressive - they are producing a fear response. Prey-driven dogs are not aggressive - they are catching their dinner (you don't feel aggressive towards your dinner as a ...

If you really want to rehome him - then I'm going to respond to that. You can easily call the local rescues and shelters. I volunteered at my last locations animal shelter and Malamutes & Husky's were almost always adopted or we sent them to a special rescue if they had a lot of "issues&quo...
