Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

There's no denying Poppy isn't an easy dog to live with sometimes. Especially with 3 other terriers and a baby to deal with as well. She's 4 this month and still can be hard work! Dealing with food guarding from other dogs is a hard thing to train out since it's such an ingrained behaviour. But some...

When management fails - but training pays off!!

Poppy is still a bit of a bully over food, and a guarder. We try to manage it as best we can. I know you guys will understand, but yesterday we had a not brilliant incident, but it had potential to be worse than it was. I'd left a couple of treats in a jacket pocket and left the jacket on bathroom f...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

So I have to clean under the babys chin several times a day because he's a chubster and milk/puke runs down his chin and collects in his fat rolls and gets sore if I don't clean it properly and I was reminded of Sweetie pug!

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

He is great for his age which I think is why I forget he's 12. He's definitely slowed down a bit though, rarely wins the ball at fetch these days so we make sure to give him an easy win sometimes ;)

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Ben turned 12 in January and I coped pretty well. However I've just realised that he is now almost 12 and a HALF and that means in a couple of weeks he will be nearer to 13 than he is to 12. And for some reason that makes me really sad ! :( Why do they have to get old?? http://i1094.photobucket.com/...

Re: Baby

I absolutely tried to prepare them as best I could, but there are still more things I wish I had done that having experienced it myself now would have come in useful! Things I did: Had good general level of obedience - loose lead walking, sit, stay, recall etc. Played baby noises (via iPhone) and ca...

When management fails..... http://i1094.photobucket.com/albums/i460/BendogSash/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsdwnkt4ro.jpg These two ladies somehow ended up unsupervised together on our bed yesterday evening. I was out, and OH phoned me panicking about how to move them without one of them jumping up too ...

New puzzle feeder

Bought a new puzzle feeder that arrived today  Of course I immediately ignored all the instructions about how to introduce it properly and instead just let the dogs have a crack at it to see what happened! I did start it off easy for the boys though. Anyway, I'll give my thoughts after you'...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

It's for the Nando Brown, In the Doghouse trick dog titles, there are different levels and you have to choose tricks from each level to pass, you should have a look and give it a go! I've found it a great way to keep me motivated to do individual training with the dogs and the way the levels are lai...

Look who just got their newest trick dog titles :)

Some of the tricks aren't great quality, but wanted to get it done before baby arrives, and we've had a lot of other stuff going on in the mean time!

Interesting

Read this today, it's about autism in theory, but has lots of parallels with dogs too.

Including how even positive R can be misused if dog/human needs aren't being met

Re: treaching fearful dog to trim own nails

Knew there had been a post about this somewhere. After Sash was at the vets a few weeks ago, they trimmed her nails as well which were hideously overgrown. So now I'm trying to keep them manageable by having her file her own (I can usually cut the back ones with a LOT of bribery but although she'll ...

Re: The ladydog and being on heat

Ben wasn't neutered til he was 4 or 5, so he never changed.
Charlie was neutered before 12 months (before we got him) and he is still the most puppyish but he has never pestered her anyway. If he wants to play he will get a toy and try to play with us.
