Where do you walk him?
Often dogs with grass allergies lick their feet like that.

Re: Ben and Poppy
I know, I really do hope he gets to a decent age...they say you have one dog thats kind of your "soul dog" that means more to you than any other and Ben is it for me. I got him when I was 14 as an 8 week old pup and he's been my dog ever since. I've noticed him slowing down slightly...not ...

Re: Difficult decisions
Thanks Nettle and Suzette...and sorry everyone for the rant! We thought about leaving the pup with them for a month or two and then making the decision, but that might be even more unsettling for her. My hunch is that if she pines excessively for me/doggy company then his Mum will concede defeat and...

Re: collies
Collies are HARD WORK! My cousin has 2 collie cross puppies, and whilst they are gorgeous and intelligent, my goodness is it hard to keep them entertained. Like Nettle said, unless you have all day every day to devote to your collie, don't bother. Beautiful dogs, but boy are you in trouble if they g...

Re: Homemade Doggy Puzzles on YouTube
The kibble dispenser is a great idea, but just thought I'd add...my dog had a squeaky ball, he quickly ripped the squeak out and tore a hole in it. Normally he'd then proceed to shred the rest of the ball, but I put some treats into the hole and now its an ace kibble dispenser. And he seems to not d...

Re: luxating patellas
My old dog had this. He got a pin put in his leg which sounds like what you are talking about. Poor dog also managed to slip a disc in his back a few years later and so was crate bound again. We found we did have to crate him when we were out, and just give him a little on lead potter around the gar...

Difficult decisions
My boyfriend and I are looking at buying our first house and moving out of his parents where we have spent the last 3 years. This leaves us with the tough decision of which dogs to take with us. Bendog is mine, I've had him since I was 13 years old and he would come to the end of the world with me. ...

Re: Dog grazing on Nettles
Thanks Nettle thats good to know. We go up to the Lake District a lot and do a fair bit of walking, would be a shame if he had to stop coming with us. I'll have a look at magnetic collars, might be worth it if we've had an extra long walk. My cousin has young collies, and with our new pup too he's h...

Re: Dog grazing on Nettles
Thank you, We do have a lot of nettles in the garden and where we walk so he can graze when he likes, but I'll consider cooking some too. Didn't realise apples were good. He loves apple so I'll give him some more often. An apple a day keeps the doctor away :D I should eat more veg also! Should I cut...

Re: Small Space Solutions: Toy/Puzzle Storage
So I salvaged a cereal box this morning from the recycling bin Boyfriends parents "oh but the dogs won't be bothered about playing with an empty box".... Maybe not...but they certainly enjoy it when that "empty" box is stuffed with paper and toys and treats and kibble and all sor...

Re: scavenging
One way of dealing with this (the way I use when I need my dog to ignore something...be it food or another dog or anything) is find something that your dog really really loves more than anything. Mine goes nuts for squeaky toys, so I take a squeaky toy out on walks, and he is not allowed them in the...

Re: Muddy Mess
Thats just what dogs do! You can take steps to avoid it if you want. If she is really thirsty after exercise then taking a bottle of clean water with you to offer her would be good. Or try not to let her get so overheated - though my dog will roll in the middle of winter no matter how cold it is! If...

Dog grazing on Nettles
My nearly 9 year old dog has started grazing on nettles in the garden and out on walks (the plant - he's not been munching on Nettle from this forum!) He's been very active lately so my first thought was perhaps its because he's starting to feel his age and get a few aches though he's not showing an...

Re: Need advice training dog to stay away from bunnies!
I have 2 terriers and 9 guinea pigs loose in the garden. 1 of the terriers will occasionally chase (but never injure) the guineas, and only if we are outside with her and she wants attention. If we ignore the piggies and she ignores them too. Though she'll go for birds/kids on bikes/cats etc. My ter...
