Re: Vaccuum Cleaners and Anxiety

My dog acts the same when the vacuum is on. While I am using the vacum I throw treats into another room away from the vacuum that seemed to help him... after a while he was busy looking for treats instead of barking at the vacuum. Hope it can work for you

Duke was good with company yesterday

Sunday my sister in law and her husband came for lunch. I planned on keeping Duke apart from them. When they came he was outside. I planned on leaving him out there so I could relax but my husband didn't want to because he was scratching and barking at the door. He let Duke in while they were sittin...

Re: Prozac for dogs

Wish me luck. My sister in law and her husband are coming over for lunch today. I plan on putting Duke in the crate or outside since it is a nice day. My husband thinks I should just let the dog around and let him sniff them. the only way i can relax is if the dog is not near. so it will be my way t...

Re: Prozac for dogs

I do have the crate partly covered. Today my son (15) had about 10 boys over before baseball practice. They stayed outside but I put him in the crate in case anyone came wondering into the house. Plus when my daughter (13) saw him with all his friends she asked to have a friend over too. So I let her...

Re: Prozac for dogs

Nettle and Ladybug-Thank you for the kind words. I'm a little confused. Some of the posts I have read in the past (I read this forum daily) suggest not to expose him to what he fears because their anxiety level keeps going up ,yet how will they get enough practice to overcome their fears. Another qu...

Re: Prozac for dogs

I started by working at the door. When the bell rang I would put a leash on him and get him to sit. I had a sign posted outside that Duke is in training please be patience as we get him to settle and please ignore him when entering. I found it difficult to manage him and greet people. Maybe I need t...

Re: Looking for help with Kenji

dgtrainer101 can you please explain how to get a dog to go to a spot. My dog is also fearful of strangers in the house and I would love to train him to go to a spot and remain calm.

Re: Feeling Overwhelmed

ladybug another question I have for you. My dog always has to be near me. If I sit on the couch and my husband on the chair he sits with me. I let him sit with me when I'm at the computer and he falls asleep. Do you think I need to get him not so attached to me. He will rest with somebody else if I ...

Feeling Overwhelmed

I've written before about my dog Duke. He is not very friendly to strangers especially in the house. It is fear based because he is a sweetheart of a dog when he gets to know you...... Also I should mention when we go on vacation I bring him to a women who watches him in her house. She will watch up...

Re: Calming aids

I wondering if leaving a dog barking in a room or his crate is just as stressful as if he was with the people in the house. He certainly sounds stressed!
