Re: External Training Issues (i.e. Other People)
Hello all! So Jack is getting much, much better. I saw "that woman" again a few times and managed to head in the opposite direction with Jack each time - until last night. It was 10:30 and we were on the opposite end of the parking lot where there's a big lawn section, so I thought for sur...

A contest, and some shameless self-promotion
Hey everyone - I hope this is ok, and if not let me know, I'll remove it post-haste! I tend to avoid shameless self-promotion on these forums because that's not why I'm here, but I've found everyone in the Positively Forums to be really helpful and super nice, and I thought I'd let you guys know tha...

Any Guide Dog Trainers?
I've got an interesting question for you guys! I have a friend who lives in the U.S. and is legally blind. He's got a guide dog - black lab, approx. 3 years old. Obviously, his dog was trained not to respond to other dogs. HOWEVER - my friend recently started working at a dog-friendly retail store a...

Re: External Training Issues (i.e. Other People)
Thank you all for the suggestions! I like the body blocking; I honestly never even thought of doing it with a person. I'm hesitant to say he's savage (or even something similar) because of the same concerns as Nettle... I don't want it to turn into a situation where Jack ends up muzzled or something...

That literally made me laugh out loud!Nettle wrote: I am very protective of my dogs anyway but especially when one is pregnant. Last litter I told one woman to get her dog away because mine was pregnant and she said "well she doesn't LOOK pregnant".
What did she expect: a Laura Ashley smock???

External Training Issues (i.e. Other People)
I'm sure I'm not the only person on this board who has run into the issue of people that you encounter on your walks doing damage to your training, and I'm wondering how those of you who share this issue deal with it. Just to give you some background info: I'm no training expert (yet! ), but ...

Also - and I don't remember the name of the dog - there was a Husky who was great with the man of the house, but would jump on /growl / bite at his girlfriend when he wasn't home.

Re: Chihuahua questions...
I once had a chihuahua who constantly looked like was crying because of the amount of fluid leaking from his eyes. I took him to the vet and had every possible test done on him... the verdict? Allergies! We were given some eye drops and within days, there was a huge improvement. As for the clothing,...

Hello from snowy Toronto!
My name is AJ. I am a 28 year old living in the Arctic North (can you tell I don't love winter?) with The Mister and my amazing 8-month old Mastiff mix, Jack. I adore dogs. I started working with them over 12 years ago when I volunteered at a Toronto-based animal shelter for 5 years. Dogs have been ...

Re: regulating dog breeders...
Yeah since I've been volunteering at these shelters it is very sad to see such loving animals who will not receive a loving home. I hate to say it but most of these dogs cats and other animals will die sad and lonely :(. However I do believe that where there is a will there is a way. And I think th...
