Re: Italian Spinones
We regularly look after an Italian Spinone for a client. He is the most laid back lovely easy boy. HOWEVER, as easy as he is in the house, as easy as he is to walk, as lovely natured as he is the slobber gets everywhere. I have to shampoo the sofas and wash down the walls as soon as he leaves. Poor ...

Re: He snaps when he's tired...help
I snap when I am tired too   I dont know what anyone else thinks, but I do think sometimes we expect a lot from dogs. If it was a kid who was over tired we would take them away for some rest somewhere quiet. Could you do the same for your dog? I dont mean this in a rude way, its just somet...

Re: Avoiding people with ball chuckers
I think that they are great if used sensibly. My dog loves it - we dont do it all the time as she would become obsessive, but as a treat and not instead of a good regular walk I think that they are great. My back isnt great and my dogs tennis balls get really muddy and slobbery, so they are fab with...

Re: petting a shy dog
One of the ladies at the rescue I work with has a dog who doesnt like to be petted. He wears a 'Please dont pet me' vest. People assume he is a service dog at work and are happy with that. Getting rid of your dog because he/ she doesnt like to be petted by strangers is sad. My dog doesnt much like b...

Re: New dog anxiety...
My husband is a dog walker, he has clients who use him every day because their dogs have separation anxiety. He picks their dogs up first thing and then they call him when they are leaving work so that he can drop the dog off after they get home so the dogs are never left. Hopefully there will be si...

Re: Brokenhearted...what do I do?
I volunteer at a rescue and its very difficult to judge a dogs behaviour while they are still in kennels. You rarely see the real dog till it is home, and then only when its settled in, and that can take months. Not always, but sometimes. I am not saying that the dog will be fine, probably it wont b...

Re: Health of your dogs and where you got them?
I am not going to continue with this, its feel a little narky for no good reason, other than opinions differ slightly. Both the above breeds you mention are breeds with low health problems within the breed - perhaps they would be a good choice. I think basically Stonyboys you should probably just ta...

Re: Health of your dogs and where you got them?
Stonyboys agility is great fun! You have to wait till a dog is at least over a year to protect their developing joints but its a huge amount of fun. Good choice with the working lines rather than the show lines and you are right they are a lot better looking. Sometimes it is just the luck of the dra...

Re: Health of your dogs and where you got them?
I am reading what you have written. I am simply stating that GSD's are in the top 10 on the list of dogs to be concerned about health wise. Therefore, along with the other breeds I mentioned if you are concerned about vet bills it is perhaps not the dog for you. In regards to a rescue or a non-rescu...

Re: Health of your dogs and where you got them?
We keep in touch with all the dogs we rehome. We take back any dog that the person who rehomed can no longer look after. I am disagreeing with the recommendation that buying a puppy from a breeder, whether reputable or not, is any guarantee that the dog will be in good health. Perhaps if good health...

Re: Health of your dogs and where you got them?
I dont actually agree with you. Sorry - not going to argue but I think that he should look into it. In the UK even kennel club registered breeders have a long history of breeding for looks over health. The GSD's backs have become lower, their back legs have become weaker and the health of these dogs...

Re: Health of your dogs and where you got them?
I have two rescue dogs - both had a pretty rubbish start and they are extremely healthy. I feed raw which I think helps. The only vet visits we have had (touch wood) have been through running too enthusiastically and tearing claws or being stung in the mouth by wasps. At the rescue I volunteer at we...

Re: Why does she do this? Pic included..
My puppy does that to my older dog too - she doesnt seem to mind. Half the time I think its because she is being bossy, half the time I think that she is using her as a security blanket. Its quite cute though - luckily my older girl has an awful lot of patience, its been going on for 8 months now! T...

Re: Has anyone used a DAP Diffuser?
I have used the diffusers and didnt think that they made any difference at all. However, I have heard that they only work on some not all dogs so maybe it was just my 2. My dog had horrible separation anxiety when she came to live with us. Crate training helped enormously. Lots of exercise, followed...
