Re: Fun games to play with German Shepherd

We had SO much fun with this dog. I'll admit, he needs constant supervision right now, but he's super trainable. I hope she follows through with the advice I gave. She should be getting in touch with me soon to discuss us watching him again next month. If anything, this weekend taught me how out of ...

Re: Fun games to play with German Shepherd

Thank you so much for reading this and for the advice, I needed the encouragement. I attached a photo of the pretty boy, he deserves to be showed off. My shed doesn't, but eh.

Re: Fun games to play with German Shepherd

Day 2: So after being very jumpy and mouthy last night, he's calmed down considerably. We went for a nice walk this morning without the prong and he was totally fine. He's very responsive to my voice so if I think he's getting distracted and may try to pull, it was very easy to redirect him. We spen...

Re: Fun games to play with German Shepherd

Success! I had my boyfriend distract him with an ice cube and I got a different prong to come off. He's already more relaxed.

Re: Fun games to play with German Shepherd

Update: he is here and he's gorgeous! I had a nice talk with his mom as we set up his crate. He failed the attitude test at the regular doggie daycare she was trying to get him into. Not because he's bad, he was just way too anxious and crazy around the other dogs. The woman that runs the daycare to...

Re: Fun games to play with German Shepherd

I never thought of veggies! I had a cat who loved them... so weird  He might like the crunch of a piece of carrot, too. Thanks for the idea!

Re: Fun games to play with German Shepherd

Thank you so much for replying, everyone! I think I really needed to vent rather than ask for game ideas. I found that "exercise the mind" thread after I posted this and it is great! 101 things to do with a box sounds super fun and, my goodness, do I have boxes. Hide and seek will b...

Re: Fun games to play with German Shepherd

oh dear. i'm not quite sure even where to start. gsd's are intelligent active dogs, no wonder the poor boy is bouncing off the walls. it doesn't sound as if he's getting much enrichment in his life with mental stimulation nor are his physical needs being met with the lack of exercise. absolutely yo...

Fun games to play with German Shepherd

I'm going to be dogsitting my sister's friend's German Shepherd this weekend. I'm kinda the go-to dogsitter around here  Anyway, I've never really had any one-on-one interaction with a GSD before, other than when he came for a meet-and-greet the other night. That went quite well, I got a nice f...

Re: Why is she whining?

It does seem like "gimme attention" whining/staring, but she will be sitting in my lap getting stroked, then get up, stand in front of me and whine. It's just so odd. After doing some research, it seems like it might be a Bichon thing. I just want to make sure I'm not actually depriving he...

Why is she whining?

I'm dog-sitting for a friend. I do this quite a bit, on a semi-professional basis, but I've never had this problem before. The dog is a 6 year old Bichon Frise who is possibly the sweetest dog I have ever met. She is a cute little snugglebug. But over the last few days, she has started persistently ...

Yes! NOVA is fantastic, but I like NOVA Science Now a lot more. It presents the subjects in a more entertaining way and makes it easier to watch for me.

How smart are dogs?

I wasn't quite sure where to post this, but I thought this was a great video. It's from Nova Science Now (a show I highly recommend, btw) on how well dogs communicate and how smart they are.
