Training Method!

After trying various ways to train our dogs not to come in the kitchen, I have found one that seems to work and I want to know if anyone else has tried this... Help with dogs off lead!

We have a 2yr old curly coated retriever who is very good on lead but sometimes fails to come back when he sees another dog if he's off lead. Does anybody have any tips on how we can train him to come back quicker and not ignore us when he sees something he wants?
Thanks!! :)
