Re: Please help, our dog toilets on the table!

I think it could be something more simple. I think the fact that the door is open all during the day time has prevented him from learning how to ASK to go out, because he never has to during the day. Have you tried leaving the door closed during the day and see if he shows any signs of 'asking' to g...

Stress relieving 'remedies'

As you may have seen from previous posts Duke is quite a nervous dog. I've been reading recently about various stress relievers, and while I know there is no miracle cure at all, I was wondering if there might be something which could help, even in the smallest way, to put him at ease more when work...

Re: Chemical castration?

This weekend we were visiting my Mum and Dad for a few days who have a male Lab x Airedale just 3 days younger than Duke, he is also entire. They spent a lot of time running around together and play fighting, but I did notice that Duke's behaviour wasn't particularly nervous - if anything it was the...

Re: Chemical castration?

Thank you Clare, that's a really helpful thread and have just had a good read through. I can imagine it must be a bit of a nightmare trying to protect a chihuahua from larger dog - I know it can be difficult enough for me sometimes and Duke is about the same size as me! Am never short of photos: (so...

Re: Chemical castration?

Thanks for the reply, Nettle. We weren't quite aware of it when we got him, a case of the breeder being a little selective wth their info, but only have ourselves to blame for not researching them more. We found out in time and after getting to know owners who have his relatives, but I love him to b...

Chemical castration?

Hello! We have Duke the great dane, who will be 2 this weekend. He's a very nervous lad, and comes from a nervous line. We tried to do as much as we could when he was a puppy wth socialisation and training, but he did have various incidents with antisocial dogs that have stuck with him and (I believ...

Re: Trouble Getting Dog Into The Car

Also, have you tried feeding him in the car?

Just taking him out there at meal times, and giving him an 'Up' command then putting his bowl in the car. If he hops in praise him, let him at his dinner and let him get out afterwards if he doesn't seem comfortable.

Re: PediPaws Review

I tried this when Duke was younger and didn't get on with it, he also didn't like the sensation at all. I prefer to just clip now.

Very helpful review for others!

Re: Yorkie dilemma!

It sounds more like he doesn't really have meals, but more eats his dinners as treats and rewards? I agree with trying a new food, and only leaving it down for a limited time. Don't free feed (leave food out), as you won't be able to monitor how much is eaten and it can become unhygenic. Have you tr...

Re: Raw food diet? yea or nay?

For me the only downside to feeding raw is that as it's fresh it may be more difficult to take away on holiday or out for the day, but that's nothing extreme. I'm a vegetarian and am more than happy to saw up bones for my dog and sort out meat/offal. I don't get why people would it anymore gross tha...

Re: collar is making my puppy scratch

You could try a padded collar. My pup wasn't keen at first when he was a baby, but I put it on about 5 minutes after we picked him up from his breeder and didn't take it off at all. I felt that he needed to get used to it and taking it off everytime he caused a fuss would only cause him to learn tha...

Re: aggressive behaviour & biting

Have you tried leaving the crate door open and walking off while you get ready, then bribing her out with a very tasty treat and praise?

Think of it from her point of view... if somebody pulled you out of bed when you didn't want to get up you'd be pretty annoyed

Diarrhea

Duke has an upset tummy :( Thursday night he had a meal of Chicken Carcasses (slightly larger meal than normal), later he brought them back up. I didn't think much of it as he's previously brought boney things back up if he hasn't chewed them down enough. But Friday morning we woke up to more sick, ...
