Purina Vetrinary Diets vs Acana
Inane been feeding my puppy Purina Vetrinary Diets mixed with a tiny bit of wet food for digestion. I went to a pet boutique to get him a harness and the lady insisted that Acana puppy food was better and cheaper and gave me a sample. He seems to prefer it even when not mixed with wet food and it's ...

Re: Training collars/harnesses/leashes
I have a couple questions re: training now that I tried it a couple times.
Should I use treats? I took Charlie outside to train today but he's too distracted, I can't get his attention.
Also, I assume if you're walking the dog on your left you're supposed to turn to the right?

Is This Normal Behavior?
When my friends and family and even I want to pet my cavalier puppy (5 months), we'll call him over but often he only comes close enough that you can't touch him and if you go to pet him or pick in up he moves away. Once picked up he's fine and he doesn't seem to mind being pet (although he's not ov...

Re: Barrier Training?
I understand what you're saying. My boss brought her chihuahua to the salon when he was a puppy and he still comes occationally. When the door is left open he doesn't leave and if he does, it's just a few steps out the door and then he comes back. I would be satisfied with that. Like I say, I'm stil...

Re: Training collars/harnesses/leashes
Okay, I got Charlie a Walkeez harness today. I read the instructions on loose leash walking and I tested it out with him briefly inside the house with the harness. A bit messy but I suppose everyone starts somewhere. He gave up on it pretty easy and just decided he'd rather not walk at all. I'm wond...

Re: Barrier Training?
I want to train him not to go out the door. I also want to train him not to go into the neighbors yard or past the driveway. I know it can be done.
Maybe what you're telling me is that he's too young at this point?

Re: Cavalier King Charles
My Cavalier is 5 months. I did a lot of research to find a small dog with a big dog personality in the sense that they are sporty, laid back, not bossy, not skiddish... He is wonderful and everyone I talk to really loves the breed. So far his coat has been very easy to manage, he doesn't need any mo...

Barrier Training?
I work in a hair salon where I can bring my 5 month old cavalier king Charles spaniel with me. He does great most of the time but because the salon gets stuffy at some point the front door gets proped open. When it's open He will at some point run out and because he hasn't learned "come when ca...

Re: Training collars/harnesses/leashes
Dogs are dogs first then their breed, apart from their size, small dogs are the same as any other. Too many owners of small dogs try to moddle coddle them, most are feisty dogs that were bred to work. I understand that, I deffinately don't want to coddle my dog. I will try it and see how it works. ...

Re: Training collars/harnesses/leashes
This is very helpful, thank you. I'm wondering how the loose leash training works with little dogs. I find because of their size they're a little harder to direct with your body. I've heard you can use a bit of peanut butter on a clean fly swatter to direct them. Is this a good idea? Do you have any...

Training collars/harnesses/leashes
I have a 5 month old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Charlie and he loves to pull on the leash. At the moment I just have a regular belt buckle type nylon collar on him and I stop him completely and say 'no' or 'ah ah' when he pulls (about every three steps at this point) but I'm looking for rec...
