Re: Rehabilitating a Puppy Mill Momma

j9Padge, I understand where you're coming from. Normal is a relative term. Each of us has our own perception of what that is for us. We all have expecations in all our relationships. It's perfectly normal. In the case of your dog, you were told one thing (that set up your expectations of what your r...

Re: Please help, Run Away Dog

Hi, and welcome. :D I love Parsons Russell Terriers! And boy do they love to run. Take a look at the thread below and in the meantime make sure he is securely on a leash at all times until his recall is reliable. But my feeling is even a dog that has a reliable recall should never be off leash where...

Re: Puppy daycare

It really would be best if you could get your mum onto this forum to be helped directly. Not only would she get the help she needs, but also the support and encouragement to see the training through. But we dont always live in a perfect world. So if you can't get her here then the next best t...

Re: Anyone else given their dogs jabs themselves?

I have been doing my own vaccinations on my dogs and cats for many years (with the exception of the rabies vaccine, of course since that one needs a vets certificate). It's very easy to do and most anyone who doesn't have a fear of needles and a cooperative animal can do it easily. (One of my pets i...

Re: Purina Vetrinary Diets vs Acana

You make a good point Josie, that's exactly one of the many reasons I personally use Acana - they use only fresh, locally grown and raised products for their food. :D

Re: Rehabilitating a Puppy Mill Momma

Ridding your dog and house of fleas requires a multi prong attack. Their eggs are very smooth (think the surface of a ping pong ball) and roll off your dog onto your carpets, furniture, etc. So you not only have to treat the dog, but the house as well. The best course of action is to talk with your ...

I'm glad you found the website helpful Debbie. And I love the picture at the bottom of your posts! I have never owned one, but long-haired dachsunds have a special place in my heart. :D

Re: Purina Vetrinary Diets vs Acana

It's all in the ingredients list, really. In general, Purina dog foods are full of artificial colors and grains instead of meat and proteins. So it's a lot of "filler" going into your dog and not too much nutrition. Foods like Acana have meat at the top of their nutrition label, no artific...

Re: Izzi the Papeagle

The dog on Frazier was named Moose in real life, Eddie on the show. Actually, there were two Eddies. For the first few years, he was played by Moose, but I believe he was a rescue dog that was a bit older when the show started, so when they thought he had earned his retirement, they replaced him wit...

Re: colloidal oatmeal shampoo

Thanks so much Josie. This recipe looks super simple and I know the soothing benefits of colloidal oatmeal from when I had poison oak several years back! My dog gets a bit itchy in the fall (skin allergies, I'm sure) and I'm going to give this recipe a try for her pre-winter bath.

Re: Golden Retrievers

VisNK, congrats on your soon to be new addition! :D Goldens are wonderful dogs. I have a golden/pyrenees mix that is a treasure. I personally prefer harnesses over collars for both pups and adult dogs. They're more secure, don't choke them and I have more control when it's necessary to have it. Post...

Re: Opinions? Early neutering

Almost every dog I and my two sister's have ever owned (and between the three of us,that's quite a few dogs over the years), all have been neutered/spayed around 6 months of age. None of us have had behavior issues with any of these dogs (a fairly balanced mix of males and females) beyond some norma...
