Barking at Baby

I have a 14 month old GSD / Beared collie cross who is very clever and likes to turn everything into a game. She is very bouncy, excitable, friendly and pushy (for attention). We have a problem with her barking at my sisters 8 month old baby. It doesnt bother the baby at all - she laughs and gets qu...

Trouble putting halti / lead on

My 10 month old GSD/bearded collie cross get extremely excited about going out on a walk and it has become very diffcult to put on her halti while she tries to "catch" your hand in her mouth. This is not an agressive move - just a "hury up" playful thing but it slows down the who...

Re: No-Pull Harness

Great to see information about this on here - I just ordered one not half an hour ago. Fleece-lined sounds so comfortable too!

Re: When to Un-Crate Train

Ahh - I think leaving her out of the crate now is a litle too soon then! She does chew - but especially for attention in the evening. She has a toy box full of toys and rubbish that she likes to collect - old plastic bottles, toilet rolls, boxes and old socks etc. Looks like she's crated for a bit l...

Re: When to Un-Crate Train

She's not out of her crate for only one hour a day - that would be awful!!!! She is a chewer - walls, skirting boards, trash cans as well as her own toys and bedding! She chews things she shouldnt when she's in the "dog house" - hence the walls and skirting. I think we'll give her a trial ...

When to Un-Crate Train

Our puppy is 7 months old and has been very sucessfully crate trained. She spends the morning in her crate while we are at work, comes out for a hour at lunch and then goes back in for a couple of hours in the afternoon. She spends all evening out and all night in. She's very happy with this arrange...

Re: puppy help

Hi,

I use a bell tied to the handle of the back door. Its actually a "parrott" toy and is surrounded with a rubber ball. it is placed at nose-level.
Our pup caught on very quickly ( within a day or two) and rings it when she wants to go out.

Re: Aggression when being put on lead

An update: Just so that you know advice hasnt fallen on deaf ears: It now takes about 4 to 5 attempts for Bella to become calm enough to stop biting and have a lead put on - which takes about 5 minutes. I am putting the lead away and walking away each time she becomes to excited and nippy. She's cat...

Re: Aggression when being put on lead

Bella knows "sit" so there is no pushing of the bum (so to speak). She is pretty good with most of her commands and we run through them all daily for treats. We are also going to weekly training classes but this week was a holiday therefore I decided to ask experts on here. It just feels t...

Re: Aggression when being put on lead

There does seem to be a LOT of assumptions here and perhaps my phrasing of "aggression" was not correct - but I have not owned a dog before and it feels and looks pretty aggressive to me - I'm not an expert which is why I am asking for your help! I have used the bitter apple/behaviour spra...

Re: Aggression when being put on lead

Wow - that was quick to judge.

Behaviour spray is Bitter Apple spray made for cats and dogs - you spray yourself or your furniture with it so that a teething puppy wont chew or bite. They dont like the taste so it deters them from chewing the object. It is not harmful to animals or humans.

Aggression when being put on lead

Our 5 month old pup is still rather nippy but we are following the advice on this forum and leaving the room when she shows this behavior - hopefully we will see results soon. She is now showing more serious aggression when being put on the lead for a walk. She loves walks and gets excited when she ...

From Puppy to Dog food

I am feeding our 5 month old GSD/ Collie cross on Iams dry Puppy food and feeding the amount as it says on the side of the bag - all going well.

She is now 13kg and I wonder, at what point should we swap to ordinary dry"dog" Iams instead? Does it matter?

Many thanks

Harnessing in the car

Does anyone know if it is a legal requirement in the UK to have your dog harnessed in the car or are they allowed to sit freely in the back?

Thanks

Re: Biting pup - nothing working for long

Thanks so much for all your advice - I had never hear of the extinction burst before but now we ALL completely "get it"!!!! It makes total sense. I just thought that the things we had tried hadnt worked after 3 days or so! We are now removing ourselves from the room for 10 - 20 seconds rat...
