Re: Wish I had known about Victoria before
About dogs and memory. In the last few months there have been a couple of articles written about Military Dogs coming back home with PTSD Yes that is what I said. I had a dog that was attacked by a Coyote in our backyard and I swear he had PTSD. There is some theory that dogs have breed recognition....

Re: Two female dogs can't get along?
What Nettle said is pretty true. I will add a big qualifier. It depends on "how Alpha" each b itch is. Two very strong Alpha b itches will fight to the death. If there is only one strong (as in hormones, temperament, not physical strength) and several other females with not strong Alpha dr...

Re: I feel like a bad owner
After my last puppy I promised myself NEVER AGAIN. I will adopt shelter or rescues at least a year old. I'm into toy Breeds and mixes (toy breed size). They are past the chewing everything I own and most often House Trained. My most recent is a Chi/Jack Russell mix. He was a year old when I got him ...

Re: And then he does something SO sweet ...
Training a loose lead heel. Take a very high quality (to the dog) treat (something he will sell his soul for.) I use ham. I buy it in the packaged deli section of the grocery store. It is small chunks of ham cut up to use in a salad or omelet. I then put it in several plastic sandwich bags, and free...

Re: Myths you've encountered about positive dog training
I agree Mattie. When a narrow minded person, (trainer or other) has a major problem with a dog it seems it is easier to blame anything including the positive training rather than look at themselves. I know the Lady that trained me pointed out that the problem 99% of the time is "handler error, ...

How do I send a post to one of the Moderators? I resized my picture until it met what looked like the standors set and now it is tiny. I would like some individual help from a Moderator.

I love the quote at the bottom of your post. There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face. ~Ben Williams I'm pretty dog savvy so don't take the dogs to the Vet real often. My Vet and I are dear friends I've been taking my animals to him for 17+ years. When something is so wro...

Re: What Will Be Te Best Breed For My Next Dog
My breed of choice is Yorke's. They are Terriers first and Toy Breed second. Terriers are not for everyone. They are stuborn, smart, independent thinkers, and training has to seem to be their idea. There are a number of Toy Breeds that make great pets or Service Dogs. I Foster for a Rescue and one o...

Re: Myths you've encountered about positive dog training
I have been involved in the Mainstream Assistance Dog World (guide, hearing, Service Dogs) for the last 15 years. I've heard Directors of Assistance Dog Training Programs state, that positive training is not dependable, without "fear" the dog will get distracted, or just decide not to do a...

Re: Would this concern you?
Hello, I am 62 years old. When my children were young 5-7 years old I would allow them to walk our family dog, a Coca-poo. Today I would not dream of allowing a young child to walk any dog. I have Toy Breed tiny dogs and I have been attacked by roaming loose neighbors dogs. I've had my dog torn up a...
