two years of hard work pays off!!

It's been a long time since I've posted anything but I just wanted to update you on our progress! For those who dont remember woody is a cavalier king charles who had some issues with aggression. This being my first dog I'll admit I had no idea what to do and went about it the wrong way. Who would h...

Re: overweight

Thats a good point, I never really looked at it that way. I think it was because it used to be a struggle to get him to eat anything and he got very thin that we've kinda gone in the other direction now! the food is being cut down.
thanks for your help

Re: overweight

Thanks for the replies! We dont really want to cut down the amount of food we're giving him if we can avoid it as he's only getting about half the recommended amount on the side of the pack (obviously we'll do it if we have to!) but I'll definately try substituting some veg in there. He loves carrot...

overweight

Its been a while since ive been on. For those who dont remember i have a cavalier male who is now 1 year 4 months or so and was neutered about 7 months ago. At his last check up the vet told us that he was slightly overweight (about 11.9kg) and they wanted his weight between 10-11kg. Since then we h...

Re: well mannered

thanks guys! The whole household is a lot more relaxed now. Any issues that come up are easily sorted now that we're both more confident and all the family are using the same methods which also helps  We just taught him "focus" which for some reason he absolutely loves to do. Yesterday he stole...

I just wanted to post to thank everyone for the help you have given me and my dog woody. He has come along incredibly well and we can go right up to his food bowl nowand put more in and take it away (when he is finished of course!) which is something i would have never been able to do. If i even loo...

Re: is this concerning?

just giving an update: we decided to get a dog behaviourist in just to see if he could be of any help. he told us to use two different bowls to feed him so he wont guard etc and it seems to be working great! he doesnt get possessive, he is eating all of his food and he doesnt mind us picking up the ...

fireworks problems

Ok i wasnt really sure where to post this but i was wondering what your opinions were: I was watching tv today and there was a vet on talking about pet safety over halloween/bonfire night. As a new dog owner i have recently discovered that dogs can be absolutely terrified by fireworks! The vet menti...

Re: is this concerning?

we normally try to leave him alone as much as possible when he's eating but the only lace he'll eat his food is in the kitchen so it can be difficult sometimes. Has someone been either teasing him with his food or trying to teach him that you can take his food away when you want? no we havent done a...

Re: is this concerning?

he's just over 11 months now. What I used to do instead of asking my dog to give it up, I would run out of the room saying in a very high excited voice, "Look what I have got" I would run into the kitchen and rattle the treat tin, it never failed, all my dogs would come running out  Of course t...

Re: is this concerning?

We got him neutered at about 9/10 months. See he isnt usually a nervous dog at all, the rest of the time he is the worlds happiest and most excitable dog  He is never aggressive or anything towards those outside the family. Could it be a phase he's going through?

is this concerning?

I'll start off on a good note, woody is great about 97% of the time. However, there is still a slight issue with growling. He would get a bit possessive over toys that were new or existing toys that had started to break or tear. At the minute we are just giving him chews and rawhides which he has no...

just thought i'd let you all know how wee woodster is getting on. I posted a while ago about him being very anxious whenever we tried to leave the house. We started giving him a Denta stick whenever we leave and now problem solved! It worked a little too well though because now when i come down in t...
