Re: Dee Dee Doesn't Listen :(
Jack- Thanks for the detailed RE earlier! I was in the middle of RE back when my browser decided to go ka-put on me :( Which was too bad because I thought it would be have a good reference. I have been reading/referring to the teen age stage several times, to see where I am at in Dee Dee's developme...

Re: Dee Dee Doesn't Listen :(
Part of the issue may also be that her basic commands aren't as "proofed" at home as they should be. At home, she sits without treats - is that with or without distractions though? If your house is always quiet and "boring" when asking her to sit, then you need to add some distr...

Re: Dee Dee Doesn't Listen :(
But why should she constantly be looking at you awaiting your every wish? She's a dog not a robot and unless she's deaf is perfectly capable of following a verbal command without looking at you. You say she's sitting when asked so she obviously is paying some attention to you. Hi Sarah. My last pos...

Dee Dee Doesn't Listen :(
Hello- A few months ago, I posted about my Beagle Pit Mix, a 6-7 months old rescue at the time, was chewing/howling in her crate. Since then, we've made some progress. We give her a Kong when we leave as well as some toys in her crate, my Husband and I alternate days in which we check on her for our...

Re: My dog grabs other dog's neck while playing
This was a very informative post, I am having the same issues with my dog as well. But I wanted to see if the OP had these issues as well (and if anyone can comment/feedback that would be great). We believe Dee Dee is a Beagle Pit mix, about 27lbs and we've had her a little over 2 months now. She's ...

Re: Kennel vs Free Roam for SA?
well-- free roam didn't work again. I don't know what happened or when-- but the Hubby couldn't go home at lunch, and he got home- at 4:15ish. Blinds torn again. No accidents in the house... but barking and howling I guess was already rampent. She calms down in the cage... and I guess, you gotta do ...

Re: Kennel vs Free Roam for SA?
UGG.. I went home and she was HOWLING. I dunno how long she was.... She was in the blinds but didn't tear them up.. so that's good. there were no accidents- good there too. When I walked her briefly, all she wanted to do was lay in the grass (sigh) :| She didnt play with her toys that i threw in the...

Re: Kennel vs Free Roam for SA?
Since we only had for a short time, we were crating her when we left- not the best thing to do I know... but we just wanted her to be safe while we're gone, and so we both can have time to adjust to each other. Normally she cries and whines within the 1st 2 min of us putting her in the crate and wal...

Kennel vs Free Roam for SA?
I am posting this topic here bc I do see the Kennel as a training tool... so hopefully this is a good place to post. For those who know Dee Dee- she has SA whenever we leave. The Hubby and I both work full time- but at different hours, so we check up on the dog anywhere between 2-4 hours after the o...

SA with 7month & 2 full time working Parents
Dee Dee is so weird. She doesn't panic and is pretty mellow around us. Take her to the park and she's a running fiend! I take her out in the mornings for at least 30-an hour and the dog parks after work. Neighbors have been saying that she barks, but then settles down- after an hour! Breaks my heart...

Dee Dee Updates
Been working with her yesterday, being in different rooms, putting her in the Crate & standing outside. She was silent for 2 minutes and just as I was about to walk in, she made a Yelp. But she's doing pretty well. I dangle my cars keys whenever I walk around for her to get used to it. And wear ...

Re: SA with 7month & 2 full time working Parents
Thanks Emmabeth. I stayed home today to talk to my trainer and to devote some time on this matter. I know it's slow going because of the situation. Having a dog that's not food motivated is an extremely hard thing to get around - I know just being near us is reward enough for her- but she has made p...

SA with 7month & 2 full time working Parents
I really hate to start a new thread on SA- I've been reading previous posts to get ideas, understand situations, the mindset of the dog etc. I've read a lot of great tips- the desensitizing and changing the routine is something I might try. Seeing a quick change in a month is reassuring. Dee Dee is ...

Re: 7 month old chewing the KENNEL!
Thanks Noobs I try to keep her in a routine to go potty... the food at certain times n' such. And we take her out to pee -- pretty much on a regular basis. She just loves that ONE spot in the room... and we had 3 accidents since we had her. Not bad considering she had no idea who we were and where s...

Hello From LA, California!
