Moving Back home...with dogs
help... I have split up from my partner and after allot of discussion and to and froing, we decided that it was best for the dogs to stay together. (I have a 3 year old female Shar Pei and a 1.5 year old Male Shar Pei - both desexed) Anyway, I am taking them with me, and I am moving back in with my ...

Re: Dogs & Horses (sorry long)
Very quick update ... On the weekend I had quite a bit of gardening / fencing general property maintenance work to do, so, I put my dogs in their harnesses and took them with me on long leads, this meant they could see everything around us (including the horses) they could sniff and follow me about,...

Re: Dogs & Horses (sorry long)
I am thinking that maybe the word "dominante" was the wrong word. - What I meant was that I needed to reaffirm the boundaries in the house with her a bit better (like making her sit before getting her dinner, asking her to move off the couch to her bed, and work on her 'watch me' a bit mor...

Re: Dogs & Horses (sorry long)
Oh, I have ceased the stable introductions - I tried that once, and realised it was not working ! The issue I have is that I am often alone, and I need to manage dogs and horses alone. Would me putting them in the tack room be considered time out ? If I cant put them in a room to be safe, I dont kno...

Dogs & Horses (sorry long)
Hello Again, Well I have been working on training both dogs seperately, and things are going quite well. We have settled into a bit of a routine, where after work I trained the dogs seperately, then took them over to our fenced area to let them run off leash together, then inside for dinner and rela...

Re: What is exercise?
This is a really interesting topic- we currently cannot let our dogs in the yard unsupervised as it is not secure enough, so they are living in the horse barn while we are at work (no horses in there when they are in there !) We used to be able to walk them after work at our old house - as there wer...

Re: ears
I also have Shar peis... Arnt there ears Fun !!!(altho very very cute) I would avoid actually putting anything in the ears... if she has had chronic ear infections it is likely that her ear canal is now very narrow from scarring - and once the fluid goes into the canal- it has no way of coming back ...

Re: Barking at house guests
Thanks so much for the advice. Quick upate on how we went... Female (older) dog was fine as soon as I introduced her to guests alone - she didnt bark again for the rest of there stay and pretty much just went back to her usual routine (eat sleep play). The younger dog was still wary of the guests fo...

Re: Dogs destroying furniture
We have recently had this issue when we brang home a new puppy- he started off just doing a little bit of damage, but it got worse. Each time we would remove a source of something he was damaging, he would find someting else to destroy. It got to the point we had moved all out belongings to the room...

Re: "Blended" Multi Dog households
I have had the exact same feeling lately... One dog for 2 years was easy. She was pretty much 'insync" with me - I could take her anyway, do pretty much anything and she just "went along" - that was until we moved house and she became very unsettled- we ended up getting another dog fo...

Re: Grass allergy... Please help!!!
Dont feel silly... I didnt beleive you could buy human meds for pets either- until I two Shar Pei - Plenty of people with Shar peis give them human anti-histamines - they are the same as what vets give, but you have to be careful with the dosage. - the hard thing about the Shar Peis are that we cann...

Re: Barking at house guests
Thanks Emma - Hmmm... this is going to be hard for the next few days, as my family are staying with us! I have put the dogs in the barn while I am at work, so they are seperated at the moment (the barn is where they usually live when we are out or at work, so they are happy and feel save there) I ha...

Barking at house guests
Ok... I am not sure on what is an acceptable level of barking / growling at visitors to our house. Both my dogs (9 month old Shar Pei Male 3 year old Shar Pai Female - both neutured) bark and growl at visitors to the house. Now, I usually do not correct them to begin with, as I beleived that this is...

Re: Help ! Two dogs = Too much !!
Thanks Mattie. I do understand that people here are for the dogs... now I just feel a bit silly that I went out and spent allot of money on this fencing system which I am hesitant to use! I did do research befpre deciding on it and it really seemed like the right option at the time- however, I certa...

"Electric fences are not secure, the shock can also damage your dogs. Ushi will just run through the fence when she sees another dog then won't be able to get back. Other animals can get in and attack yours. Stock fencing is secure and stop your dogs getting out and other animals getting in, i...
