This was a really good episode -- clearly illustrates the need for exercise, and it was great to see the family move past their bickering and focus on the dog's needs.
How many days were you there working with them? It's hard to judge time watching the show.

Re: Collie Problem
I've never heard of barkbusters, but they sound horrible. cstrachan, I received the same advice on these boards about doing more frequent, shorter walks for my reactive dog, and I can tell you it's worthwhile! I was so concerned about making sure that my dog got EXERCISE that I tried to take him on ...

Re: ACK! He ate a plastic wrapper ....
Thanks Becky!
He's still eating and drinking just fine, he's been peeing and pooping just fine ... the vet said the same thing -- keep checking the poop, and call them if his appetite or energy level changes.
This dog is gonna give me gray hair ...

ACK! He ate a plastic wrapper ....
Hi All! I know I don't post much these days, but things are going really great with Gordon and we've had some successes (a major one a few nights ago, but that's another post)... He's not typically a food stealer, but last night he must have been feeling "saucy" because he swiped a package...

Re: Martingale vs. Halti - questions
Hello! OP here ... I haven't been able to get on very often lately, and when I do I quickly peruse any interesting threads (can't read every one of them anymore..) and log off ... Noticed one of my old posts was pulled up so I checked to see what was new on it! No, Gordon is not ready in any way for...

Re: A moan about some dog owners!!
BWAHAHAHAH!! I think that's really funny! Some kids (adults, too) aren't going to learn the lesson by hearing someone say the words ("don't tease the dog") ... they only learn when they experience the results. Hopefully said results don't include a bite, but I think that kid now has the me...

Re: Dog eating cat poop
My previous dog also enjoyed the, er, hors doerves (not sure I've spelled it correctly either). :D The easiest solution, really, is to put the cat box in a place where the dog can't get to it but the cat can. For me it was easy because my last dog absolutely would NOT go down to the basement. He wou...

Re: A moan about some dog owners!!
It's funny I've wanted to post for WEEKS about my frustration with other dog owners for this same reason. The few times Gordon's met other dogs it's always been because an off-leash dog came running (sometimes happily, sometimes aggressively) down their driveway. One time I didn't even see the dog o...

Re: Other dogs
Timing is critical. I've been working on my "u-turn" timing since practically Day 1 with my dog! I'm getting better at it, but it takes practice (and god knows I get way too much practice! lol) It definitely has to be done quickly, swiftly, and confidently without looking back. Sometimes G...

Re: Keflex reaction?
Thanks Duffy! My vet did finally call me back -- it was almost 10 pm by then. Sorry I haven't been back to check the thread. With my back pain for the last 2 days I've not been online much. So ... he's back on the keflex and tolerating it a little better. No more vomiting, and he's a little more act...

Re: And then he does something SO sweet ...
Thanks Carol -- I continue to work on loose leash training with him, including a heel ... the issue is his intense prey drive and volatile reactivity to other dogs. Haven't found a treat yet that will convince him not to lunge at a dog on a walk. Yet. But I have had some success with a high value tr...

Will do!emmabeth wrote:Check out the mind games thread in the health/diet/exercise area, theres lots of stuff you can do.
Clicker train, puzzle games, destruction boxes, meals from food dispensing toys... exercising the mind is very tiring!
