Just an update
Thanks to everyone's advice and some persistence, Bax is a loving part of the family. He doesn't jump or nip at Gabe anymore. If I see play heading that direction, I just say back and he stops. Baxter is also listening to us better...heck, he's listening to my husband!

Re: Help, please!!
Thanks for the advice. I've seen an improvement already. We still have work to do. I stopped letting him on the couch. He has a comfortable bed and blanket right there by the family. If he approaches me and doesn't jump, he gets love and play time. My son is, of course allowed up there. I also allow...

Re: Help, please!!
Bax is just over a year. When I see him jumping at Gabe I say "Eh!" a sharp noise I use for the dog and my son that gets me everyone's attention. I pick him up, put him behind the gate in the kitchen and walk away. After a couple of minutes, I go get him. If he starts mouthing at me, he go...

Help, please!!
We have been having so much fun with Bax. He's made a great addition. Trying at time, but fun. Lately, he has been showing aggression towards our son. Usually unprovoked. Like if Gabe climbs into my lap or follows me around..Bax with jump at him and mouth him and nip. Gabe is now scared of him and I...

Re: Hunting drive?
I will. I forget about the search function sometimes. :) Hiding toys around is a great idea! I've also seen battery powered toys that move and make noises. I was thinking of getting one for him to play with, under supervision of course. Is it reasonable for me to ever expect him to "leave it&qu...

Hunting drive?
From the advice in my other thread and other's on here I've read, I think my dog needs/wants to "hunt". We are not sure, but he has the characteristics of a norfolk terrier and cairn terrier. Physical and personality wise. These are the breeds whose descriptions fit him the most. He is not...

Mattie are you saying you have just you to BBQ for? Now what would your dogs have to say about that?

Re: Makes my blood boil!
I agree with Josie. And unfortunately, a bite like that would probably mean the dogs death. And if the owner does it, that poor dog. I hope the dog catches a lucky break.

Re: Bax is gonna tear a hole in my door
I'm scared if I teach him not to scratch, I won't always notice when he needs to go out. I don't always see him sit by the door. Usually, he only scratches once or twice with one paw. So am I trying to stop the excessive scratching and how do I make sure not to stop the "normal" scratching.

Bax is gonna tear a hole in my door
That's right. A 13lb terrier is going to tear a hole through my door. Over frogs. For some reason frogs LOVE our parking lot and the grass around where we walk. Baxter will sniff 'em out and chase them down. He doesn't hurt them. He just paws, noses and whines at them. He loves the hunt but not the ...

Re: need a little cheering up!!
We were at the dog park today and a little rat terrier came up behind me and I accidentally stepped on his paw. It happens. We don't mean for it to happen, but it does. Not your fault!

So who wants a good laugh?
A few days ago we started clicker training with Baxter. I did the whole click-treat thing and he caught on quick! So over the last few days we've been working on some basics. Sit, stay, down, leave it and drop it. The last two are very important with a toddler in the house. I do training after the k...

Re: The bark off- ultrasound device that stops ur dog fom barkin
That sounds kind of harsh. I'd think it's a pretty painful/uncomfortable frequency if humans can't hear it.
