Re: Barking at noises
How many times a day and for how long is she walked? Alot, including some long runs (15 plus kms) on the weekends out at the mountain bike park. Removal: When she starts barking, say enough or quiet (or anything you want as long as you use the same word all the time) and give her a 30 second time o...

Barking at noises
Our 4 year old dog has started to develop a really annoying habit of barking when she hears sounds outside (car doors slamming etc) - or believes she hears a noise anyway. The barking only lasts for a few minutes but she tends not to listen when she starts this. She will go sit on her bed but she st...

no confidence yet lots of confidence
my dog zoe (4 yr old am bulldog mix) is a wimp. She gets scared quite easily. For example when going for a walk the other day a car ran over a kerb by mistake, rest of the walk she had her tail between her legs and kept looking around in a very nervous manner. Couldn't shake her out of that mode unt...

Some dogs are just ball driven. I see this all the time at the off leash. In the long list of things a dog can be obsessed with, this is not so bad. I see many dogs at the off leash that will focus on a ball rather than play with other dogs. Is the issue more that you think your dog should play wit...

ball obsessed dog
Hi My dog is obsessed with balls. Go down the park with the ball chucker and will not interact with anyone or thing, just stares at the ball chucker till the ball gets chucked. This is fine but it also means she snaps at other dogs when they come near her as I presume she thinks they are trying to t...

been following the losse lead walking sticky and i have to say i am thoroughly impressed with how it has worked wonders with my dog. The only issue i find now is that when she stops to have a sniff (unasked or promoted) she is very hard to get going again until she is done. it is funny as when she u...

she fetches but she wont drop
My dog Zoe (huntaway x american bulldog) loves to tear after tennis balls down the park that I throw for her. She also comes tearing back with them but then she stops a couple of meters away and proceeds to lie down and chew the ball / stick / whatever. I can sometimes lure her over with a treat and...

Never use a halti for this, you can do a lot of damage to your dog's neck when you turn and walk the other way, a harness won't do any damage to your dog. You only need about 10 minutes a day to do this, any longer and your dog will get fed up and do his own thing, you will end up on a bad note ins...

Re: Loose Lead walking
Have the dog on your left. Hold the leash loop (the opposite end) with your right so that the leash crosses in front of you. Hold the middle of the leash with your left. So it should look like this: dog ------ left hand ---- you ---- right hand (with the dotted lines being the leash) Did that help?...

Re: Loose Lead walking
I also have a 6ft lead which I attach to the harness, with the dog on my left I hold the loop in the lead in my right hand, my left hand holds the lead nearer my dog but which lets them me on a loose lead, the lead between my hands is loose as well. Can you explain this bit for me. I do not quite g...

The hackles going up is your sign to move away. This is all well and good and I can move her away as you suggest but how do I get her to the stage where her hackles do not go up when she meets another dog. They always go up whenever she meets another dog. Even when we had the second dog they were u...

Even better - learn to read your dog so that you can see when she starts to become stressed and take her away from the other dog/s/people who are raising her stress levels. She doesn't need to be 'better'. She's already fine - as Noobs says, she's only telling them to get out of her space. You can ...

aggressive with other dog - dominant dog
i have a three yr old huntaway x american bulldog. She has always been a bit grumpy with other dogs down but nothing too serious. About a year ago we got another dog and due to issues with this second dog (who we have since rehoused) we stopped going to the park with Zoe (the current dog). Since get...
