Re: Dog Wont pee or poo on concrete

Do you really see no grass on your walks? My dog won't poop (or pee) on concrete either, but we always find grass on our walks.

Re: Barking when left

I just ran home at lunch for the first time and exercised him in the yard. My new landlord came by, and I explained the situation to him. He was really understanding, as a dog owner himself. When I left, unfortunately, he followed me to the door, even though I filled a Wobbler with food and a Kong ...

Re: D.A.P. Diffusers

Diffuser didn't work for me. The collar might've worked marginally, but at $30 a whack and lasting only a month, not worth it.

Re: Barking when left

I got two books on separation anxiety months ago but was bad about reading the second one, "Don't Leave Me" by Nicole Wilde, because I got distracted by interviewing for a new job. I got about 10 pages in and it seemed great, though. The first one, "I'll be Home Soon," by Patrici...

Re: Barking when left

I'm interested in the advice people have on this too. Same situation here. My dog is 2.5 years old, and he has accepted my work schedule -- i.e., when I leave for work and do the usual things like walk him for an hour, shower, put my boots on, etc., he realizes what's happening and behaves. I put hi...

Re: fearful dog with people, noises

I would keep up the herding clinics and do it even more often, if possible. Are there other forms of activity you've tried? Agility, maybe? My dog (also part Australian shepherd) is fearful of people too, but it's interesting how the details from your situation are slightly different. E.g., my dog s...

Re: new dog

How does she behave around people now?

BTW, you should edit your thread title to be more descriptive. "New dog" says very little.

Try the DAP collar. I noticed a difference about a month after consistent use of both.

Re: diet question

I'd never heard of using l-tryptophan before seeing it on Victoria's show. It's a valid question. Hopefully someone with actual experience using it will weigh in. Lucky: Have you tried the DAP collar? My dog has very similar issues to yours and started making noticeable progress after I started usin...

Re: nervous dog

From experience, exercise has helped my dog with his nervousness a lot. I walk my dog 2.5 hours per day, much of it off-leash, and it has helped. It also helps to find activities your nervous dog loves. My dog is fearful of people, but this past weekend we did agility (which is the second agility cl...

Re: He hates walks

It sounds like fear to me. My dog had very similar problems for several weeks after adoption.

Have you tried driving somewhere and walking there? A park, somewhere without lots of people and cars.

Re: petting a dog

I do believe it is absolutely necessary to help these dogs for who people are scary and stressful to learn to be relaxed and comfortable as possible with humans near them so they aren't living in a world of fear and stress every time an unknown human comes near or looks at them etc. BUT part of doi...

Re: Dog won't eat treats so I can't reward help!

You might not be trying the right treats. Ditch the Milkbones and store-bought treats and go straight for the serious stuff -- liverwurst, cheese, hotdogs, steak. My dog can't resist Ziwipeak, both the food and the treats. If you can get it in your area, I highly recommend giving it a shot. I agree ...
