Feeling stuck with a fearful aggressive pup...
I have my own dog, Cash, which is the poster dog for a rule follower. He thrives on rules and loves being the good boy over anybody else. He has his issues but he has been a seemingly easy dog to train. My mom just recently adopted a pup, Elmo, from our local county shelter. Probably about 3 or so m...

Re: Humping - Just started...
So proud of my boy. He did much better the other day. I tried to praise him a ton whenever he chose not to or played and that seemed to help a lot. I also brought him in early and he seemed to be more at ease not that he ever acts like he's not at ease

Re: Humping - Just started...
Thank so much! And Nettle, I try! I work at a dog boarding/daycare place so we have to be on our toes and able to see as much body language as we can pick up on. I do my research when I'm unsure and try to do the best thing. I can recognize the look but unfortunately with distractions I have missed ...

Re: Humping - Just started...
Oh and the most common "victim" seems to be those who are lying down. It seems as though as long as nobody is in prime position he doesn't try it but if they're down, he just decides to hop on. He did think about it today and made the decision not to, I rewarded him a ton for doing ...

Humping - Just started...
Hello! I've posted a few times. I had a troublesome foster dog and some issues with my dog barking at my job. The troublesome foster dog grabbed Cash, my dog, by the neck right before we took him back and slammed him on the ground. We took him back immediately and got my dog safe. I don't know if th...

Re: New Dog - Reactivity Problems
Thank you for all the kind and encouraging comments :D Oh and Angus got adopted the other day, I believe it might be an only dog home. Very happy somebody wants to take him, they're picking him up on Saturday so hopefully all goes well. Just a few more small questions. With Cash's barking and excita...

Re: New Dog - Reactivity Problems
I also would really like to Cash almost as good as gold in his reactions before bringing another dog into our lives. I think in a few years I will look into adopting a puppy or younger dog where most of the background and handling is known and work with him/her from the start. Constantly reinforcing...

Re: New Dog - Reactivity Problems
Sorry for the late response, it's been a few stressful days. To start, I'll say that we are not adopting Angus and he is unfortunately back at the rescue's kennel (a very nice kennel). My mom wasn't comfortable with having a dog his size at this time and just didn't feel like she wanted to fully com...

Re: Dog DNA test
Oh yes, I completely understand that it's not super accurate and will give misleading results. But, I feel as though it did well for my dog. He is obviously a dachshund, no doubt about it, and when it came back when the results two of the breeds were marked and had cause of concern to not be accurat...

Re: Dog DNA test
I see just from reading a few posts that people here are not big advocates of DNA testing. I think some of them are questionable but I got my little dog done and I am quite pleased with the results, it makes a lot of sense and I feel as though it was well worth the money, at least for me. He is a da...

Re: New Dog - Reactivity Problems
I sometimes add a little canned food to my dogs food, dogs go more by smell with their food and it changes the smell to them instead of the same boring smell of the dry food. I also soak their food before giving it to them, it saves them from getting dehydrated. I ended getting Angus some vita grav...

Re: New Dog - Reactivity Problems
I wasn't criticising you, it is more difficult with a foster dog, you have to get permission first. You do need this information though because you are seriously considering adopting him, the more information you have the better the decision. I didn't think you were :D Sorry if it came off like tha...

Re: New Dog - Reactivity Problems
Dolly is very cute, looks similar to my Cash. :) Do you free feed him? Dog's digestive systems are not designed for free feeding, dogs gorge themselves then go for a day or two without eating, us humans have altered them a little by feeding regularly and changing their shapes. Some dogs, mainly deep...
