Re: nipping problem with 9mo doodle

thanks emmabeth!

When he jumps up during fetch, I just end the game, because I'm afraid he's aggressive and doesn't want me to take his toys from him. I'll take your advice and try it with a toy that is less exciting to him. Thanks so much!

Re: nipping problem with 9mo doodle

Thanks for the response! Vinnie is rarely ever by himself - I live with my parents while I'm finishing college, and both of them are retired. I would say it's a rare day that all three of us are out of the house at the same time. Luckily Vinnie LOVES his crate so he has no problem being alone for a ...

Re: nipping problem with 9mo doodle

So I am reviving this thread because I still need some help! Vinnie is doing a lot better. He is now 14 months. He RARELY nips at anyone in the backyard. Only when we throw his tennis balls across the yard. (He will play fetch 4 or 5 times, and then on the next retrieve, drop the ball at our feet an...

Re: Loose Lead walking

I need some advice on how to start! I have a 14 month old miniature goldendoodle who is small but STRONG! He wears a easy-walk harness, still pulls with it but I have been way too lazy about training him LLW. (I could blame it on the fact that I didn't take him on walks in the winter/early spring be...

Re: victoria trainers

Before I adopted my puppy a little over a year ago, I was obsessed with It's Me or The Dog - so when I set out to find a training facility I knew they had to advocate for positive only training methods. I found Trainer's Academy, although they were not affiliated with Victoria Stilwell at the time -...

Re: nipping problem with 9mo doodle

Thanks for that idea Emmabeth.

We have a huge backyard with a lot of nooks and cranny's so it's a bit dangerous to leave him on a leash. But I'll make sure to bring it with me outside so if he tries to nip at me, I can put it on him and try your trick.

Re: nipping problem with 9mo doodle

My dad understands in theory - it's just when the dog starts nipping at him he forgets how he is supposed to react (sounds like more of a dad training than dog training issue, right?) Today I again explained that if he walks away the first time Vinnie nips, Vinnie will think "when I bite him, h...

Re: nipping problem with 9mo doodle

Yes, I have explained to him how to react, and he was there with me in puppy class so he heard it from the trainers as well. When the puppy is nipping at him, I will tell my dad to ignore him, but it seems that my dad just freezes up in these moments and does the wrong thing. And I doubt very much m...

nipping problem with 9mo doodle

Hey everyone. I am the proud owner of a 9 month old male mini goldendoodle named Vinnie. I should note I'm a 24 y/o living at home while I finish my last two years of college. I have posted here before that he has problems biting/nipping, and things have not gotten much better. While he does not mou...

Re: Puppy jumping on legs...suggestions?

Hey Mattie I feel like you are trying to rebut all of my suggestions - which I offered as suggestions and not the only way to train a dog. Let me try to clarify some of them for you - as verbal communication isn't my strongest area. 1)I think we are agreeing here - my point originally being that to ...

Re: Puppy jumping on legs...suggestions?

First off, start clicker training. It will really help you train positive behaviors! (I was a skeptic, but I can't believe I waited so long to try it) Second, she is trying to get rewarded by jumping on you (reward as in, your attention) When you ignore her, she may just try harder. At the training ...

Re: at my wits end with 13 week puppy that bites

Hi all, thanks for your advice. Vinnie is now going on 15 weeks and we have had 2 puppy class lessons. The trainer suggested to let him mouth on my hand, and praise him when he does it gently. Then when he chews too hard, to give a yelp or "no" and walk away. Amazingly...it's been working....

at my wits end with 13 week puppy that bites

My puppy is a 13 week old male Goldendoodle (poodle, golden retriever mix) who weighs almost 16 pounds. I have been having trouble with biting for the last week. I figure he has started teething, because he used to mouth things in an exploratory way and now he seems to need to chew non stop. He gets ...

Re: Can No Longer Walk Dog

Oh gosh, I miss living in Arizona. I didn't mind the summers too much. (I'd rather be inside cause it's too warm out than stuck inside cause it's cold out, at least Arizona has sunshine!) I would definitely look into some sort of dog socialization class or training classes, even though it would cost...
