Re: Wolf-Like Behavior?
Can I ask a question regarding the UK law on wolfdogs and wolf hybrids because I assumed they are illegal unless kept in zoo-like accommodation. However, I see wolfdogs for sale such as Sarloos (I have met one of these and my dog didn't want to seem to avoid her but it's an interesting observation t...

Re: My dog is scared of bicycles, freaks out and cries very loud
My suggestion is to use Click the Trigger or Look at That. An autowatch is a bonus with this because the dog looks back at you for his reward anyway or some people deliver the treat off centre, so diverting his gaze. Just click him whenever he notices bikes, joggers, horse riders at distance, simple...

Re: Appeasement behaviors interfere with training new behaviors
Hi In addition to all the above good advice and requests for more info, with a sensitive dog like yours, I would check that you are not using any No Reward Markers - things like No, Try Again, Oops, Ah ha, Oh dear etc etc. Even a huff or a sigh or a tut from you can be enough to deflate a dog like t...

Re: Need help with some small corrections for rescue dog
Marie said: With clicker training you must still give the comand. The click does not tell the dog what to do. even using you tongue to make the sound works I do this when I forget mine. So it would be Ginji Sit *tongue click* treat. You really don't have to give a command for the Click the Trigger g...

Re: Need help with some small corrections for rescue dog
Hi Some ideas: He's only been with you a short while. Contrary to popular belief (see notes from the lovely trainer, Suzanne Clothier for example), it is not OK to ignore a dog who is upset and you will not reinforce any upset by seeing if they are OK. It can take ages for a rescue dog to settle in ...

Hi Ari
Do you give any food on sight of the dog, during passing or after you've passed?

Absolutely not. Things that scare, cause pain or intimidation should never be used on any dog or puppy. There is a thread in the articles section about toilet training.Edited. Just seen the link is above!

Re: Dog barking at other dogs + people - advice please :-)
I wonder if he is that comfortable with interacting with dogs but anyway, he just needs to be shown that he can turn his back on dogs and people after interacting with them. The reason they bark when leaving is because they have the courage to do it then when backs are turned. As the other dog is wa...

Re: Cousins dog has bitten someone!
Why won't she consider rehoming them? You know of course there is no quick fix so wanting to sort it out but not having the time is not fair on them and they would be better off going to a collie rescue or into specialist collie foster homes. Either that or management but it sounds like she can't do...

Re: Choices
I love this post. I am all for choice as well but I don't do the meat menu because I don't defrost two types of different meats at the same time, so they get what they get. Deciding where to walk... Well being the collie always up front, my male stops at junctions and looks back for a direction. Alt...

Yes we'll have to agree to disagree. The devil is in the detail about what is being reinforced and ultimately does give an indication of successful rehab, shown by reducing distances to final interaction if the dog wants to or is even eager to.

Re: Training 'Look at That' [LAT]
I am glad I found this post because I was reading it some days ago and meant to reply about LAT. Having joined a number of 'force free trainers' pages on FB, I have learnt so much so my understanding of conditioning is as follows: LAT is operant conditioning - because it requires the dog to operate ...
