Re: Separation Anxiety for Crate-trained Dog

We tried the crate training and our dog was frantic, clawing at the door nonstop when we were gone for 1 hour. We left the door to the crate open and got a baby gate for the laundry room. Our dog was ok being left in the laundry room with a few treats in a puzzle. We never locked him in his crate ag...

Re: Why some people don't see progress with reactive dogs

Thank you for supporting my thoughts. I think Po'ele is happier being a people dog so I don't want to stress him.

Re: Fleas

We've had good luck with a weekly bath of 'Earthbath All Natural Shampoo' (I add a good dose of pure organic neem oil to the shampoo at the time of the bath). I also use a flea comb to be safe and on rare occasion have caught one or two.

Re: Why some people don't see progress with reactive dogs

Excellent! I also listened to the 2nd video she posted. My interpretation is that I shouldn't force my dog to interact with other dogs. I took him to 'small breed playtime' at Petco today and he sat behind me in a corner. The trainer forced him into the middle so as to be more interactive with anoth...

Re: Terrified of Delivery Trucks

Fundog: How did you train your dog to stop car lunging? I have the same problem with my dog & cars/trucks.

Re: Storing Dry Food

Thank you for the reply. I did email the manufacturer, first asking about freezing and they said it would affect probiotics and possibly prebiotics. I emailed back about just refrigerating, but as yet I haven't had a reply. I expect I'll donate any remaining food to the local Animal Shelter as we ap...

Storing Dry Food

I bought a bag of Horizon Legacy Grain Free (rated 5 stars on http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/horizon-legacy-dog-food/ )and the expiration date is August 2012. I feed our dog a half home made diet. My question is, how long can I safely feed our dog the refrigerated kibble. I have aske...

White Eye Discharge in the morning

I've asked our vet about our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel's eye discharge and he kind of glossed over it like it's not a problem. (Note: we live on the Big Island, Hawaii, not many vets to pick from). I've read that it may be a sign of dry eye syndrome. Does anyone have comments on a dog having whi...

Flea Free, no spot-on

I'm happy to say that Po'ele has been flea free for 3 months and we're no longer using Spot On products (he had been getting fleas by the 3rd week and I hated putting poison on him). We give him a weekly bath with a splash of organic neem oil in his very mild, hypoallergenic shampoo. I've trained hi...

Re: Stress relieving 'remedies'

I strongly advise against using valerian. I took it years ago to relax and ended up with a suspected intestinal blockage (intestine so relaxed it wouldn't move). I nearly had part of my intestines removed because of it. Luckily, I refused the operation and the next day, the intestines started to mov...

Re: walking help

I don't have an answer, my dog has also become reactive to cars (barks and pulls the leash, seems to want to chase). Today for the first time he saw 2 dogs walking across the street and he started barking. In the past he would always wag his tail and want to greet new dogs. Any suggestions are appre...

Under eye fur treatment

Hi, Our dog gets a little goop in his eye corners, which I try to remove without rubbing into the fur. In spite of this, the fur is a little stiff under his eyes. Our dog is black, so we don't worry about tear stains. I'd like to know if there is a natural, safe way to soften and remove the material...
