Re: Something horrible

Thank you all very much for your kind words and support. Last night it was such a shock and very raw. Maya is very sore after the collision and still in shock. She is our main worry at the moment, they must have collided with some force. As Nettle said running dogs are meant to run and although we a...

Re: Two female dogs can't get along?

We have 10 bitches at the mo, 4 terriers and 6 lurchers. 95% of the time we have no problems. Only Tag is spayed. Our dogs DO share! They don't even fight over bones. We get a box of bones from the butchers each week and simply dump them on the garden they seem to have an order at which they select ...

Re: Two grown-up female terriers problem

We have a family of terriers, Mum and 3 pups (two seperate litters) and they get on fine. They are sealyham/ lucas based so not as hard as yours but working terriers nonetheless. Tension occassionally arises between Tag (mum) and Megan (lurcher *****) this to seems to happen at the door especially w...

Re: Dominance Aggression and Excessive Nipping

A thirteen week puppy that bites is not showing aggression or any signs of dominance. It would be like saying that a tiny baby that cries is trying to dominate a household. Please please erase any ideas of alpha pinning and any simialr rubbish from your training program, it will do far more harm tha...

Re: Old dog- grumpy and demanding

Thank you. He has got to go back to the vets so a vet check would be worthwhile i think. He seems well in himself when he is on the walks that he picks and is still very keen to chase small furries. We started giving him a low dose of rimadyl because if he has exerted himself he struggles to move th...

Old dog- grumpy and demanding

Hello, I'm having a few problems with Alf at the moment. Alf is 10 and a 26'' lurcher, i think saluki/greyhound/deerhound mix. About a week ago we thought we were going to lose him, he took to his bed and didn't get up (except to empty himself once a day) for three days. We had taken him to the vets...

Re: My pit bull is being aggressive, help?

I can only echo the thoughts of the others on here. One should probably go and perhaps it should be the new arrival. I once rehomed a lurcher that had killed a cat. Everything was fine untill one day we stopped it killing a chicken, in that moment the dog changed and attacked my lurcher Alf, it had ...

Re: Different Reactions...A Thought

Thats great about a dog and a parrot. I think it is totally possible for different species to create relationships. Personally I think its to do with them feeling secure in their environment but also (without seeming Ceasrish) to do with engery. In a calm, comfortable situation almost any animal can...

Re: What is my lurcher ???

Hi wicket. A lurcher is a type not a specific breed. It can be defined as a sighthound (Greyhound, whippet, deerhound saluki etc) crossed with any other breed of dog. Generally working types like the Collie were preferred. If two sight hound breeds are mixed then technically the result is called a '...

Re: Split Toe...

Is is the pad that is split? If so they normally heal pretty quick. Maya has skinned one of hers at the moment, they are very sore when they are open but they do heal pretty quick. We don't go to the vet for a split pad as it seems to be a fairly common injury for running dogs.
