Re: Dog who runs off
Check out the thread High prey Drive in the Breeds section for more advice on how to make walks interesting for your dog :) You have a very driven breed of terrier - one of the hardest, toughest there is. Bred for work not pet. So you may never be able to trust yours 100% offlead which means choosi...

Re: Dog who runs off
If you can teach her to "wait" that can also be handy. Sometimes, even if they aren't willing to come all the way back, they will respond to "wait" stopping and staying put until you can catch up. It's just one more tool to add to your repertoire. To teach the "wait" c...

Re: Dog who runs off
You need to progress gradually from the longline to no line. Start by letting her drag the line behind her and work on lots of recalls - you can stand on the line of she runs too far. Re: Dog who runs off
Have you attempted to work on recall off-lead in an enclosed area that's not your backyard? Hi, unfortunately, I don't have access to anywhere like that. I think I have resign myself to Meg always being attached. I have another dog Jess (Border Terrier crossed with ?) and I do not have a problem wi...

Re: Dog who runs off
Thanks for replying. I can recall her many times on the her 100ft lead and she always comes straight back and sits to have a treat. If off the lead her nose just goes to the ground and she is gone - she is very single minded.Leigha wrote:What have you done so far to work on recall?

Dog who runs off
I have a 2 year old Patterdale terrier *****. One of my problems is that I am unable to let her off the lead. When walking in the fields she has a 100ft long lead so she can have a run round. When on this lead she comes straight back when I call (I always give a small treat). If off the lead she run...
