Re: agression towards children
I agree with Mattie; but also that children need to be shown the right way to pat a dog which like she stated a rub on the chest or under the chin, and not on their head.

Re: agression towards children
One of my JR's are like that she will growl if a child comes up to her and try to pat her. So what i have been doing now is giving treats to the child, and saying to my dog nice, and so far it has been working, and now my dog is going to her and asking for treats, but still working on the child comi...

Re: chihuahua/terrier mix afraid of thunder
You can also play sounds on the computer and also you can buy a cd that plays all kinds of sounds. That's what i have done is played off the computer and didn't make a big fuss, and it has worked for mine, but every dog is different but thought i would share that.
Good Luck!

Re: Calling all JRT's
My JR's are not in any kind of sport, but they are just my pets. They love to be loved and respected, they are devoted little dogs who love nothing more but to play chase and please their owners. I have two JRT's and they are great little dogs and yes sometimes they can keep me on my toes which was ...

Re: Calling all JRT's
I have one JRT named Sharpy. I rescued him in August 2009. He was a stray on our streets. After no one claimed him at the animal welfare league we went back and adopted him. They said he was about 1-1.5 years old He his well behaved in the home around us for the most part. He wants to kill our pet ...

Re: Calling all JRT's
The Jack Russell terrier also known as the Parson Russell was bred to chase the fox from out under the ground so the hunt can continue which this was started by the late John Russell who was looking for a breed to keep up with the hunt. Jack Russell’s are devoted, loyal, and true to their breed; whi...

Re: Did You Train through Books/Classes or Other?
I have read pat millers book and watched tv shows, but have trained my dogs through nothing but positive reward base training. I find that positive methods are the way to go and i agree with with others about Cesar/ Brad they are both out dated training methods. If you want a great bond with your do...

Mattie wrote:Sweetie, Chelle lives in the UK were it is illegal to leave a dog without water which is why I told her to find out if ice cubes will do instead.
That's why i said it's always good to leave water no matter how long you are gone for. Also it's a good idea to leave ice cubes a long side the water.

Re: Leaving a dog??
Its no problem i will just leave her water down, getting someone to come in, is not an option, no-one around me can do it. If she pee's, she pee's its no big deal for me, i'll leave her a matt anyway and see what happens. She will only be left on the odd occasion i.e. twice a month if that. Michell...

Re: Vibrating Collars?
Sweetie these are not positive training, there are times when they may be useful like with a deaf dog but for normal dogs they are usually used by lazy owners who can't be bothered to put the work in to train their dogs. Dogs trained with these are never as reliable as dogs trained positively. &quo...

Re: Vibrating Collars?
Hi guys my boys are doing quite well together, I've seen some people locally using vibrating collars to break the distraction of there dog when they can't get there attention. On the whole the boys are getting better and I feel more in control than before, though trying to walk a 2yr old and 6mnth ...
