Hi emmabeth-
What if they move on from biting the leash to biting you? Do you just keep with the same method?
Ox has stopped biting the leash and started jumping up and grabbing at my clothes instead.
Thanks,
Bunny

Fear and Attention Barking
Hello all! It's been awhile since I posted. I hope you are all doing well. Ox is doing much better, though we are still hard at work on all the things I brought up in my first post. The clicker is now fused to my hand when we go anywhere. I also have them strategically placed in treat bowls around m...

Tail Chasing
Why do dogs do this? I have read that it is boredom, and can also be a form of coping with anxiety. And I'm sure it is fun. I have been working on giving the high yelp when Oxford will mouth me, and his reaction is always to go straight into chasing his tail. He has done this before too when I repri...

Re: Clicker Training next stages...
Yes, both answers are helpful. Oxford has gotten to the point where he can do sit in lots of locations with distractions (dogs, toys, etc.), so I feel pretty good about giving up the clicker on that one. So, if I'm understanding you correctly, I say "sit"with my hand cue, and then if he do...

Clicker Training next stages...
Please let me know if it would be better to post this on a new thread.
How do you begin to transition away from clicker training? In other words, when I start to feel like my dog is mastering something, what are the next steps?
Thanks!

Re: Leash Biting
Thanks! I read the loose lead post last week, and I've been trying to change my method accordingly with that. The chain is a great idea. Wonderful as always!

Leash Biting
Hello and Happy New Year! It's exciting to see the new website up and running. It looks wonderful. I've been biting my nails waiting for the forums to come back to post this. :0) I mentioned in my original post that I strugged with Oxford, my 1 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, biting and tugg...

Will do
Got it. I will try those things. I guess I just won't put the little bear in too many Christmas photos while he's all tatty. :0) I forgot to mention, other updates- standing up and walking away when he licks has been working very well. He had almost completely stopped until I went back to trying to ...

I am not doing this right
So I have been working with Oxford for a week now on the brushing. We are still really struggling. He got to the point where I could hold it up next to him and he would stay in the room, so I moved on the one stroke on the back. He didn't like that, so we've been working on just holding the brush ov...

Jumping on the table
My dog has a tendency to jump up on the table while I am eating. He has been trained in the clicker method, but I was using a spray bottle to get him to stop jumping up. I am changing that technique after guidance from these forums. Now when he jumps up to lick at my plate, I give him the command &q...

Thank you!!
Thank you so much for the post, Emmabeth. It is so wonderful to hear these things. I love my little dog so very much, but I knew these techniques were not working for us. I'm so glad I posted on this forum! I'm looking forward to seeing what all I can learn here!

Also eating
I forgot to mention this also- my dog loves to eat anything and everything. I would love to leave him out of the crate when I am at the office, or let him sleep in the bedroom with me, but I fear I would come home to find he ate the dvd player or wake up to discover he had devoured all the books fro...

Licking, Growling, Nipping
Hello-- I have a King Charles Spaniel that is almost a year. He is the sweetest dog in the world, but I am continuing to have problems with him on a few things. We have gone through Petsmart Beginner class and are working through the Intermediate class right now. I got him when he was 8 weeks from a...
