Re: dog biting

How are you using the clicker? I've seen people who seem to think they have to point the clicker at the dog or put it really close to the dogs ear you don't have to do either. You could try muffling the sound by using it while it's in your pocket or wrapped in a cloth or try a different type of clic...

My "childhood" dogs

Well, teen years anyway since I got Shadow when I was 11 and Wolf 18 months later. Shadow the border collie mix and his amazing ears. He was put to sleep aged 9 after what I now think could have been a stroke. He'd had rear end problems for 2 years after getting loose one night and coming home with ...

Re: Is this Serious?

diareoah... i can never spell that. I just use Dire Rear to get around that problem :D I'd also be back to the vet and/or trying a different vet since they only seem to be treating the symptom rather than looking into a cause. I don't actually care whether my vet thinks I'm making a mountain out of...

Re: Teaching targetting with a back paw?

Ooh now.... I dont think its entirely unreasonable to have the dog aware of all four paws and where they are, which is I think, the goal here, not having him do handstands and juggle with his back feet... Maybe that's how I should have put it in the first place  This is exactly what I was try...

Where in Manchester roughly? I've heard good things about the ones at My Pet Stop in Denton if that's any help to you.

Re: Teaching targetting with a back paw?

Is it really unreasonable though? It's not targetting specifically I'm looking at although I didn't really explain that very well did I? I would like to be able to get him to lift his back paws on command though instead of me having to manhandle him to dry them like I do at the moment. He's not lear...

Teaching targetting with a back paw?

Anyone have any ideas on how I could do this? Rupert targets very well with his nose and both front paws but I'd like to get him using his back paws for stuff too. So far I've tried clicking every movement of his back paws but for some reason this usually results in a lovely obedience type sit (not ...

Re: Picky eaters

Just a tip, I found that the more I messed around with changing Ruperts food and adding this or that to it the more fussy he became. Like yours he'd eat something for a meal or two then turn his nose up at it for days. As for the not changing food straight away but mixing a bit in with what they're ...

Re: FAITH- THE 2-LEGGED DOG

It disturbs me to see Faith to be honest. Not quite sure why, I just find it disturbing and I couldn't do it. Did anyone see the video of the Chihuahua puppies born like this? http://adopt.animalleague.org/video.php?vid=12

Re: 30ft leads?

I wouldn't trust any dog 100% to respect yard boundaries, they're not robots and I've witnessed a well trained dog run out into the road and be killed after years of never doing so. I could probably leave my front door open and Rupe not go anywhere but it's not worth the risk to him or to others. I ...

Re: Positive Reinforcemet

I give Rupert safe stuff to shred and quite often join in with him  He'll still shred any tissue he gets hold of but I don't really see it as a problem, I just tell him he's a brat and pick it up. Yeah, it makes a mess but it's worth it to see his eyes light up when I hand him a piece of paper ...

Re: Feet licking

If you want to be able to give treats other than just pieces of whatever meat you use and veggies then you may have to make your own. Not sure what treats are available where you are but over here practically all the ones in shops have cereals in them. Works out cheaper to make my own anyway and Rup...

Re: Feet licking

Have you actually done any allergy testing or did the vet just give meds? What were you using to clean his feet? What do you use to clean the floors at home? What's he fed? Rupert was horribly itchy and had constant ear infections when I got him, vets just kept treating the infections and giving him...

Failing that ... Denton, MyPetStop
Their classes didn't seem too bad, the people I spoke to about getting Rupert into classes could have used an attitude readjustment though :|

Re: I Really and Truly LOVE My Dogs...

she immediately ran and jumped on my bed, rubbed her face on the quilt, decided that wasn't sufficient, so spun and pawed until she had pulled up all the covers and burrowed underneath them! Rupert does the same thing if he gets the chance and I never have a camera to hand when he manages to ...
